Here is my positive but not so positive induction story.
So, I went on at 8pm on Wed night for an induction of labour. Both my OH and mother came with me which I am SO grateful for!! So they started CTG monitoring about 8:30 which was supposed to be for half an hour but ended up being on that for about an hour and a half due to babies heart rate being all over the place. His heart rate was nice and healthy it was just the MW couldn't interpret the graph very well so she ended up having to get a doctors opinion who then give me the okay to have my first gel inserted around 9:45pm. After a VE I was told I was still long and hard and only 2-3cm. Then around 10pm I started having what I THOUGHT was just post examination cramps but were actually contractions as I learned when they suddenly started to hit every 4-5ims and really strong. I ended up along paracetamol, codeine and had a shot of diamorphine to control the pain. This worked wonders for a couple of hours other than vomiting off the meds. Had a sleep with OH and then went the toilet and had lost mucus plug around 3am. Started contracting heavier and asked for another shot of diamorphine which didn't really work but manage to get another nap on before being moved into a delivery room at 4am. At this point I was 4cm dilated so I got into a nice warm bath and OH have me a quick wash only to my surprise my waters then broke spontaneously and WHAM the worlds strongest contractions then hit around 6am. I was literally shouting at the top of my lungs for gas and air which when I did finally get it didn't work for me anyway!! I just remember telling my mum and OH I hated the MW because she kept telling me I wasn't breathing properly and I was trying so hard! I finally requested an epi after about 2 hours of painful contractions and was adamant to get it although after the anastheasist had put the drip into my hand and started to explain the procedure I was completely out of it and kept falling asleep lol. We found out I was already 9cm so everyone agreed to not let me have the epi
I then remember screaming and apologising the I was pushing and I was sure his head was coming out (although I didn't mean to push my body was doing it naturally haha) however it wasn't coming out as of yet but around 9:30am-ish MW finally had me push and after 20 minutes of hard work my little boy was born, first head at 9:58am and then body at 9:59am.
So welcome to the world Alfie James Faulkner, weighing a tiny 5lb13oz although expected to be 9lb+!!
Had to have 2 sets of stitches inside and out but me and baby are fine and were home 4 hours later
