My next appointment - what to expect?

Well, at my last fertility appointment I was given four months worth of Clomid and told that I was to go back on 15th January to see where we were up to and, if the Clomid has not worked I will be put on the IVF waiting list.

My question is - what do I expect from this appointment? What will happen?

I just want to know, really, as to whether or not it is going to be one of those waste of time Filler appointments. I was told that, come January we would be put on the list but I just don't really know what to expect...

Any ideas?

Also - what do I say? I don't want to be pushed around. For one thing, the Clomid has done nothing for me. I have not ovulated once whilst on it. The last time I ovulated was August. My temps never change, OPKs are either positive every day or never at all and I have constant headaches. Am suffering even MORE with cystitis as well.

Should I just write a big, horrible list and go in there armed?

What I am worried about is, if Clomid is not making me ovulate then how can I be a candidate for IVF? You need eggs to go through it, right?

Clomid is not the main drug they use to make you ovulate during IVF. Also, sometimes it takes more Clomid than the 50 mg that they usually start on. During IVF they will give you FSH injections and you will absolutely positively grow lots of eggs with that. Also, Clomid does not make you ovulate, it merely causes you to grow eggs in the ovaries. Some people need an HCG trigger injection to make them ovulate the eggs that were grown by the Clomid. I have needed an HCG injection the past 2 months in order to ovulate. Does this make any sense?

Hey chick, I agree with Vineyard. From my own doctor experience, if my follies aren't responding by February's appointment, I will get trigger shots in February. Maybe this should be the next step for you before IVF? Sorry if you've tried this already and I'm sounding dumb!

Hey CS

I asked my friend about this last night as she doesn't ovulate and so was on clomid. She was on it for 6 cycles before they upped her dosage and then at this point she fell pregnant.

Have your FS discussed altering the dosage to assist you at all?x

I was told to up it to 100mg if I did not ovulate. I did not ovulate on 100mg either so I don't know what else. I was told that the policy where I attend is that women should not be on Clomid for any longer than four months, that if Clomid has not worked then it probably never will. He did not recommend a dosage higher than 100mg. I reacted quite badly to the 100 anyway so I doubt i would be permitted to go any higher. I was getting migraine headaches and visual disturbances and severe pelvic pain on 100mg.
