Hi mummies ![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
First up I just want to say that I love reading birth stories and realised I never wrote mine for my son who is now 2! And because I'm 2 weeks away from (hopefully) meeting baby #2 it got me thinking about the birth of my son, Lucas. So I've decided to write it now
here goes...
My due date was the 30th November 2011 and after been told by every available nosey parker, I wasn't surprised I went overdue. I had my usual appointment on the Wednesday (30th) and she booked me in to have the sweep on the Friday (4th) and even booked an induction on the 12th if I was still pregnant. I was really comfortable with my midwife as I'd had seen her and only her all the way through, she knew exactly what I wanted to happen and things and I prayed shed be the one help me deliver.
Anyway I went home and kept myself busy with washing his clothes and reading up on breastfeeding over and over till I could write an exam on it it!
My sweep was quite uncomfortable as she couldn't reach the top of my cervix properlyas I was so nervous and couldn't relax my lower body. She told me to breathe and relax and managed to do the sweep. After she said surprisingly, your cervix is almost fully thinned/efaced. So that was one thing to be excited about!
3 days passed with no signs of labour apart from bits of my plug mixed with blood but I thought that was just off the sweep. I was feeling totally chilled just impatient, I wanted to meet him!
My OH stayed over that weekend(at the timehe livedhalf an hour away) and I wasted mo time in trying to get things moving if you know what I mean! We 'done it' twice in 2 days and I was feeling optimistic and ready to go. Another 2 days past and by Tuesday the 6th I wad scrubbing the kitchen floor in desperation. I decided to relax at around 4-5pm i distinctively remember watching lord of the rings, but fell asleep and kept waking as I was having what felt like mild cramps or poo pains, nothing I couldn'thhandle. Me and OH timed them and they were around 5 mins apart not lasting more than 40 seconds. I knew I was contracting and was so excited! Everyone was surprised at how relaxed I was and not freaking out.
We drove to hospital at around 8pm, I was examined to discover I was already 3-4cm dilated and got settled in my room and sat straight on a birthing ball! My partners, my mum and OH were taking turns to rub my lower back where the pains were mostly at and meanwhile sucking on gas and air which left an 'ice creamy' taste in my mouth making me feel a little sick. The OH was eating strong smelling crisps which didn't help the nausea. Oh and to my amazement guess who was the midwife on shift that night? Yep my midwife, amy!
She would come and check baby's heartbeat and my BP often but was happy to leave me to my own accord. I can honestly say that the best pain relief is ignorance! I felt my contractions but didn't feel too bad. I clearedy mind and didn't think of of the impending birth or anything like that, I was quite enjoying my labour! We even watched Notting hill and I was on facebook telling everyone where I was.
Amy examined me at around 10pm and I was 6-7cm. She decided to break my waters at this point which I can say was the worst part of my entire labour and birth. They had to get an anthestist (sorry can't spell) to insert q drip in my hand as I have bad veins and it hurt like hell! It was to give me drugs to speed up my labour. I lay on the bed while they poked and poked at my hand, I thought I was going to pass out!
Anyway after my waters were broke I was back on tge ball feeling fine until I started getting contractions again, which now started to hurt. I told Amy and she immediately stabbed my bottom with a needle which was apparently pethidine. After that, time seemed to go really fast. I felt the pressure deep down and kept telling everyone I needed a poo! I was trying to get up to go to the loo but Amy just said it's tge baby's head coming down. The 'poo' pressure was getting uncomfortable and I really needed to push so I was allowed to get on the bed while my OH said, excuse me and went to go throw up!
I started pushing at around 2am and kept telling my OH not to look between my legs! A couple of pushes and his head was out, my mum was crying saying he's got blonde hair! Amy told me to feel his head and it felt wrinkly and wet! At this point I felt so exhilarated and empowered, one push later, lucas Elijah was born screaming his little lungs out at 2:16am weighing 8.5 1/2 lbs measuring 23 inches on 7th December 2011.
I can't remember much after that, having to ask my mum to recall it, she said I was bleeding very heavily, it was spurting everywhere and she saw loads of clots. Amy was scraping the bed clothes off before pressing a button on the wall making loads of midwives run in and help her. She must have gave me the thigh injection 6-7 times to stop the bleeding. But I had no memory of this just looking in my baby boy's eyes. My bleeding slowed and amy delivered the placenta (gross!) OH held Lucas most of tge time and next thing I knew I threw up green vomit, said bye to my mum and fell asleep. I woke up to a cup of tea and soggy bowl of rice krispes, while OH changed lucas' nappy and ended up putting it on backwards!
I was discharged later that day at around 4pm and returned home with my brand new family!
Thanks for reading!![flower :flower: :flower:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/flower.gif)
