I switched him over to HB milk a few days ago, now he seems to be in a lot of pain and straining to poo. I feel really awful for him, have switched him back to normal formula and given him some cooled boiled water. How long will it take for him to feel better??

unfortunately it could be 24hours hun, just keep topping him up with cooled boiled water as much as you can hope he feels better soon

Yes as much water as he can take Hun. Also try rubbing his back in a figure of 8 going sideways across him just above nappy line. Also rub his tummy clockwise and cycle his legs that should get things going.
If he remains constipated maybe try him on comfort milk??

Thanks girls, I hope he feels better soon too, am so upset that I can't make him better :(

I did a google search (as you do) and a few places suggested cycling his legs and massaging his tummy so thanks Kirsty, good ideas.

I have managed to get about an oz of water down so far, and he has had some normal formula too so maybe that'll help flush him out a wee bit.

Would I have to speak o HV before putting him on comfort milk??

my princess was on Sma gold and was terribly constipated for 2 solid weeks her poop was few and far between and green and hard,we also had terrible screaming fits on the evenings,i then changed to c&g comfort on tuesday and i have to say im over the moon i did.a different and happier baby in my case.I would wait a week as you have just changed and maybe have a word with your hv.i didnt and went with my instincts and advise from this forum..especialy kirsty..so thanx hun from me to..
xx

Hooray.... we have progress, the water and change of formula from HB to normal seems to have done the trick. He has had a good empty and is getting back to his usual placid self!! :)

my LO was really in pain and I put half a teaspoon of the juice from a tin or prunes into her bottles of milk every other bottle and it seems to have eased.

she was in so much pain I had to do something

Ahh thx tiggerlix and NG09 it's nice to hear advise helping. Not that I know much yet I'm first time mum but just from experience so far.
Glad to hear ur LO's are doing better xxx
my LO has been bit constipated tonight so I've upped the water again, she was really upset tonight so I stripped her off, oiled her up and gave her a full body massage! She then was very thirsty so had water and a feed then went off to sleep but, still no poo... Yet!
