Thought I would write my birth story before I forget it all as I want to be able to read it later on!

Wednesday
I went to my consultant appointment at the hospital and had great news, my OC levels were normal and they discharged me from consultant care! I had traces of blood and protein in my urine so likely to have an infection but they would contact me early next week with the results.

Thursday
So as normal on a Thursday I went antenatal class, started to get quite bad back pains whilst I was there. By the time it had ended at 5pm OH had to come and pick me up from the doors as the back pain was so bad. When I get home I rang the midwife and was told it was likely to be a UTI as I had the blood/protein the day before and either go to MAU that night or GP next day to get antibiotics as next week would be too long to wait. I had a bath and took some paracetamol as she recommended for the pain. By the time we got 4am I hadn't slept a wink and was in agony, I rang MAU and they told me they were super busy but they'd see if labour ward would see me instead, well they were too busy as well so they put me through to the antenatal ward who told me to come in straight away. I was admitted and put in private room, they did a CTG/bloods/wee check etc. gave me some codeine for the pain so I could sleep and OH was sent home told to come back for visiting at 10am.

Friday/Saturday
I tried to sleep but that just wasn't happening, the codeine didn't do a thing! So I walked around my room, rang my mum to tell what had happened and generally just waited for OH to come back with toiletries etc. At 8:30am I was sat on my bed still in lots of pain counting down the time until OH came back suddenly I felt summat strange down below, jumped up and ran to loo and my waters had bust, so there I sat on the loo PJs soaked all alone! I got up and ran to press the buzzer and ran back to the loo where I sat with my waters trickling away. Because I had nothing with me I ended up in a gown and disposable pants :dohh: Midwife told me tell OH to bring the hospital bags etc as I wouldn't be leaving without my bub :happydance: We then spent the whole day waiting around with nothing happening, had a couple of CTGs to check on baby, had a couple of showers, back was still killing me the whole time. I asked the midwife if I could try and encourage things to get moving so at 6pm we went on a long walk around the hospital and then had a good bounce on a birthing ball. Just before OH leaves I start to get contractions, quite mild pain wise but they were rather regular at around 8mins. As time goes on they start to get closer and closer together, I ended up sat on the loo floor, throwing up now and then, rocking backwards and forwards when ever I got a contraction, the midwife wanted me to move but I was adamant the cold floor felt nice. By the time it got to midnightish I was in absolute agony and called the midwife to ask for some pain relief, she gave me paracetamol and codeine (which I didn't want as I knew it wouldn't work but she insisted). At 1am I call her back as the contractions were 5mins apart and I wanted more pain relief, she checked me and I was only 2cm, she told me I wasn't in labour yet and gave me a shot of pethidine :growlmad: So I sat on my bed crying and moaning through every contraction until 3am  I called her back again and got her to check me again, I was 4cm and finally in active labour :happydance: she went to call the labour ward so I could be sent over  She came back at 3:45am (took her bloody time lol) to take me over to the labour ward, I called OH and told him to get here ASAP and meet me at the labour ward, the midwife gathered my stuff and walked me over to the labour ward. I had to sit the corridor whilst they made me a bed in one of the rooms, while waiting they sat me down next to a random man in the corridor and I started to get a contraction, I've never seen anyone look so uncomfortable in my life  he actually got up and walked off giving me a right look!! Finally got into my labour room at 4am, I get on the bed and they immediately gave me G&A. After telling the midwife from the antenatal ward that the labour ward people were much nicer than her (I liked the G&A a little too much and it really does make you speak your mind lol) I start demanding more pain relief, I even asked for an epidural (I reallllllly didn't want one before!) as I thought I was only 4cm and no chance was I going through this for hours. OH arrives at 4:15am and tells me I don't need epi and reminds me of my birth plan, says how far I've come, hes proud of me etc. The midwife starts to fill in some paperwork asking me about feeding/skin to skin/cord cutting when I get another contraction, this was like none of the others I'd felt before and I got the urge to push, I tell her I have to push and she tells me I can't be I'm 4cm and to use the G&A to get through the contraction. The contraction ends and she checks me, looks up at me rather shocked and says actually I'm fully dilated and ready to go :happydance: It was now 4:30am so I'd been in active a whole hour and a half, she said he still had quite a way to come down but once I knew he was on his way and would be here soon I became so determined to get him out, with the next couple of contractions I managed to get him further down but the G&A was distracting me too much and I wasn't making the most of the contractions so I gave up with that and kept pushing as hard as I could getting in around 3 pushes per contraction. At 5:01am his head came out and with one final push at 5:03am Keelan Antony was here :cloud9: He was put up onto my chest and OH cut the cord. He weighed 7lb 8oz and was/is totally perfect, I only had a 1st degree labial tear that didn't need any stitches!! My Mum, Dad and Sister arrived around 5:40am, they had tried to make it for the birth but it was all over too quickly, at 7am the midwife came and said that I could go home soon if i wanted to as everything had gone so well and I didn't use pain relief (the pethidine was so early on it didn't count!) so by 11am we were all back home. So I was actually in active labour a whole 2 hours, not bad for a first timer :haha:

I'm so in love with my lil man, the lazy chunk just sleeps and eats all day long :cloud9:
