On Sunday 28th December I went into the hospital for monitoring due to reduced movements. His trace etc was ok but due to my Antiphospholipid Syndrome and the fact that he hadn't grown much at his last growth scan they decided to induce me.
We went home and sorted out our oldest son, grabbed the hospital bags and headed back in for about 6pm.
At about 9pm I was given a pessary, I was 1cm dilated at this point. I was told I would need another at 3am if no progress.
My midwife came in at 3am and said they couldn't do the second one as the delivery suite was full. At 4am she came back and said she had been given the ok. I was given another pessary as I was only 2cm and not having pains.
A few hours later contractions began but they were irregular and not unbearable. I could easily breath through them.
I was checked again around 10.30am and had progressed to 3cm and was told that as soon as there was space on the delivery suite I could go down and have my waters broken.
As the hours went on I started to panic about having my waters broken. I had had them done with my first pregnancy and the contraction came thick and fast and the pain was horrendous! At one point at about 6pm I burst into tears, I was missing my son Tristan so much, we had only ever spent 1 night apart and we were now coming up to night number 2. I ended up making myself sick from being so worked up. My husband managed to calm me down.
At 9.30pm my husband was sent home and told to wait for a call to come back. At midnight I was finally collected from the ward to take to the delivery suite. At this point my contractions had pretty much stopped.
The midwife called my husband and asked him to head in. Whilst waiting I asked if I could have a water birth, I was told I couldn't as I had to be continuously monitored. I felt so deflated. I had always said I wouldn't have an epidural but could feel myself beginning to lose myself and I knew that wasn't going to help me in labor.
I was put on the monitor and once my husband arrived I had my waters broken. I was 3-4cm at this point. I requested an epidural.
Within minutes the contractions had hit me hard. I tried leaning over the end of the bed with gas and air but ended up with pins and needles in my legs and arms so climbed onto the bed and leaned over the back of it on my hands and knees.
The contractions became very painful very quickly with hardly any break inbetween. The midwife said that I was going to beat the aneaseatis. I nearly lost it but my husband talked me back round and managed to calm me down. I honestly didn't think I could do it. The pain was awful and then came the pressure. I got to the point where I felt like I needed to push really quickly. With each contraction the pressure became worse, I hardly had to push at all as my body and baby seemed to be working really well together.
Just as I got to the "ring of fire" I thought I possibly couldn't do this anymore his head was born. With the next contraction his body was born
He was a little screamer. I had requested that they let the cord stop pulsing before it was cut, once it had stopped Hubby cut the cord ![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
I was in agony afterwards, it took a lot to turn over to deliver the placenta etc and being examined afterwards was awful. Turns out I had a 1st degree tear but didn't need stitches.
The first stage of labor was 40 minutes and pushing was 15 minutes.
Elijah John was born at 2.25am weighing 6lb 10oz at 37+6 weeks pregnant.
After our recurrent miscarriages and all the scares along the way it just doesn't seem real. We are over the moon and his big brother is smitten too!
