Hello all!
My little girl made her appearance into this world bright and early on Monday, January 21st. The day before I went for a nice long walk, which included going up and down stairs, I ate spicy food and dates, and my husband and I had sex before bed. I got up at around 2 to use the restroom and I remember thinking, "Well none of that worked! I guess she will come on her induction date!" I awoke at 4:45 am with a contraction and my water breaking. I woke my husband, his mother, and my mother and said it was time. I took a little time at the house making sure I had everything I needed. My contractions were not strong but they were about 5 minutes apart. They were so light I remember saying, "Oh I think I may be having a contraction " with a smile on my face, lol. I knew I would be having a c-section since my baby was breech. I figured I would just sit at the hospital for hours waiting for the OR to become available. When I got to the hospital around 5-5:15 am my contractions were a little stronger and a little bit closer together. The nurses put me in a room and got me settled in. My contractions kept getting stronger and stronger and closer together. I had an appointment at the OB/GYN a few days before and I was dilated to 2-3 and 75% effaced. When the nurse checked me around 5:30 I was an 8. This is when things started happening fast and things got scary. The nurse ran down the hall and called in the doctor and scrub techs for an emergency c-section. My contractions were almost non-stop and I was in a great deal of pain. The nurses were sticking both hands for an IV and to draw blood and I was consulting with the anesthesia guy within minutes. And off we went down the hall to the OR. This is when they told me we wouldn't have time for an epidural so I would be going to sleep for the procedure. Once we finally got to the room they said they would try just a few seconds to get a spinal and if that didn't work I was going to sleep. Luckily, the spinal took immediately without any problems or any pain really so I was able to be awake for everything. Within 30 minutes at 6:33 am my beautiful baby girl was born and my husband went with her to be checked out. After the surgery and recovery, things were going beautifully. I wasn't in too much pain and was on the right track to be going home Wednesday morning. That is until Tuesday night I began to spike a temperature. Turns out I had acquired a surgical site infection caused by the hospital; in fact, this was the second c-section infection this week, although the two surgeries were in two different ORs and had two different doctors. There was talk of having to open my incision and drain the infection, but luckily that hasn't happened. The doctor who did the surgery was not my doctor but the doctor on call at the moment. She never came back to see me or my family after the surgery was over. My doctor was so shocked I had this infection she called in an infectious disease specialist to evaluate the situation and began an investigation as to what caused these two infections. I had to start antibiotics immediately and had to stay in the hospital two more days. We are home now and loving every minute of it! My baby girl is perfect and is as precious as can be! It will take a little while for me to get back to normal but I hope we are on the right track.
