Just thought I'd come back and tell you ladies about my water birth. If your thinking of having one, do it!

My waters broke Thursday at 2am at 39 weeks. We called the midwife and made our way to the hospital where they confirmed my waters had indeed broke. She did a quick sweep and sent me home to see if it would kick start my contractions. Back at home I had a bath and got some sleep. My contractions started at 8am the next morning. Being active through the contractions was far easier so I spent all day on my fit ball with my oh rubbing my back. It got to 4pm and my contractions were 3 mins apart. Got to the hospital and was told I was only 2 cm dilated which was disapointing. They booked me in for an induction that evening however by the time we got there, I was 4 cm dilated and she did another sweep. We stayed on the induction ward for a further 2 hours and my contractions were starting to get unbearably painful so my oh asked the midwife to give me morphine however she came back with paracetamol and said they were getting a room ready for me and to hold out for the water pool first. Another hour later she came back and took me to our room.

By this point I was in agony. The pool was half filled by the time we got there so they offered me the gas and air which made me Instantly sick. Finally I got into the pool at midnight. It was the best feeling ever. Any pain I felt had completely vanished. I told the midwife I thought my contractions had stopped!! She told me to stay in and to see how I went and before I knew it, I had the urge to push. My oh stayed at my head the whole time, he was amazing. By this point I was absolutely shattered. I hadn't eaten all day and I kept passing out in the pool. So my oh was shovelling chocolate and energy drinks down me during the last part of my labour. My contractions were very short and quick, so every time I pushed and felt her head baring down, the contraction would stop and I'd feel her move back up! So it felt like such a long time. Eventually she was born on 4/1/13 at 02.24 am :)

So a water birth really worked for me, only had paracetamol and if it wasn't for the water, I'd have defiantly had every drug under the sun!!!
