My husband and I are due to have our second baby in November. Our son Ryder just turned two and his middle names are both of our Dad's names (Jonathan Paul).

We aren't finding out the sex but have no lack of girls names since we still have our options from our first pregnancy.

The problem we are having is coming up with boys names that we like and/or have meaning to us. My husband and I have both had Grandparents pass away this past year and were thinking of incorporating their names into boys names.

What do you think of Otto Joseph or Theodore (Theo) James? My husbands grandpa was Otto and my grandmother was Theonilla. James and Joseph are names that run on both sides.

Do these work with Ryder?

Thanks for any feedback!

I love both of those names Otto is fabulous! I think I would go with Otto as it flows slightly better with Ryder but either would suit just fine.

I also really like both of them! I agree that Otto goes a bit better with Ryder.

I Much prefer theodore. People get quite hung up on sibling names flowing but actually its not often you actually have to say the names together. I'd go with the name that has the most meaning to you and your family

i like both names a lot. they work for a child and they work for a grown up man, even if he should end up in a leading position in his future job.
"Otto" makes me think of Bismarck so it has a pretty conservative feel to it, but i still think it is a beautiful name.
And I really like Theodor as name.

if you want to honour both grandparents, why don't you just take "Otto Theodor", or search for names with the same meaning "Jonathan" (gift of god) has the same meaning for example as Theodor and you get around the "t"-cluster inside the name. there are also a lot of male names with the meaning "wealthy" or "fortune", like Otto.

EDIT: i just noticed, that you already have a kid called Jonathan...forget what I said.
I'd go with Theodor James or Otto Theodor. It's kind of cool to have two children with different sounding names, that mean the same thing.
I like it much more than all kids starting with the same letter or being numbered in their second name (X Prima, XY Secunda, XZ Tertius...)

I prefer Theo (because of the Bismark thing, and I think it actually goes better with Ryder), but that's just my personal taste. I think your should choose whichever you like saying more, since you will be saying it a lot!

I like Theodore, its traditional but modern at the same time. Its unusual but not weird! I just can't decide.

Otto i just think of the simpsons - sorry.

:)

I really like both and I love family connections in names, I agree that Otto 'goes' better with your sons name, but I am really partial to Theodore, love that name 💕 x

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Theodore and I find that it fits with Ryder just as well as any sibling name should fit. Not like a matching themed set and not so different in style either that it would be obvious. :)

I love them both- I have a Theodore and wanted Otto as a contender for this LO but OH said no, boo. I think both sound good with Ryder :)
