Nasty, mean old clomid...now what?

I put this on the TTC board too with no replies. My DH and I have been NTNP for over a year and tried for a year prior to that. This was our first round back to trying and our first round of clomid and these are the results.

I'm completely devastated. I have a 7cm cyst on my right ovary as a result of 50mg of clomid. It is borderline whether or not it needs to be surgically removed. My OBGYN wants to put me on birth control for 2 months hoping to shrink it but if that doesnt work then I will need surgery anyways. What do I do? She said there is a risk that damage would be done to the ovary if I opted for surgery. At the same time as removing the cyst they could explore and make sure that I dont have endometriosis which is the last thing left to rule out but the doc wanted to try one round of clomid first. After 2 months of birth control she wants to put me back on the clomid but up the dose to 100mg. What do I do?? I called for a second opinion but cant get in until the 23rd. OBGYN wants me to start BC tomorrow.

Not to sure what to suggest but didn't want to read and run.

It's hard but I think if it was me and I was in your situation I would take the bc as I wouldn't want unnecessary surgery and I wouldn't like the thought of possible damage to an ovary. But everyone is different and you need to do what feels right for you. Best of luck and I hope it all works out for you.

sounds like you need to take the BC and try and avoid surgery and possible damage to an ovary, you poor thing thats awful, hope you feel better soon x

Hey, I would agree that its worth giving the BCP a shot before looking to surgery. Did they say what type of cyst it is? My guess is that you began to respond to Clomid, but didn't quite get enough surge to ovulate so it turned into a cyst??? In which case maybe the higher does might work.
I'm in a similar situation, Clomid 100mg didn't quite work and left me with a 35mm cyst. 3 and a bit weeks on it is starting to go, only 17mm now.

if that was me id take the BC. you could shrink the cyst and dont they say you seem to be more fetile after coming off BC? it could help you get your bfp
