So on Monday 2nd December, I woke up at 5AM to some leakage. I had been asleep and figured I'd just leaked a little urine lol. I changed my underwear and got back in bed, when I next moved at 6:30AM even more leaked out and I thought it was maybe my waters. I went to the toilet to check and it just started dripping out of me with occasional gushes every time I bent over.
I got to the hospital for around 9AM. They confirmed my waters had broke and gave me a steroid shot. I was admitted to the ward and had to wait to see if contractions started. By the Monday evening there was still no sign of labour coming so they gave me another steroid shot and continued monitoring. Tuesday was pretty much the same, just more monitoring. The doctors said provided labour didn't start, I could go home on Wednesday with antibiotics and come back at 34 weeks for induction.
On Tuesday, I went on the CTG machine around 5PM. Nate's heartbeat was very erratic, jumping to 180 and then dropping to 80. He kept recovering and generally his HB stayed around 130 but the midwives were concerned about why it was so up and down. I ended up staying on the CTG machine until 8PM. I had to go back on it just before bedtime to double check he was okay. That was at 10:30PM. He was still having the decels and the registrar came to take a look. She went and spoke to the consultant and came back to tell me that I'd be having a c-section within the hour!
Cue me ringing OH crying my eyes out that he needed to get here and then just general panicking. I've never had any sort of operation and didn't know what to expect. I was really surprised by how many needles I had to have in preparation. The actual section was fine and the staff were lovely. I lost some extra blood so had to stay in the recovery room for ages afterwards but I only need strong iron tablets to recover fully so that's good. I was really overwhelmed by how much I hurt after the section (and still do!), it's so much harder to recover than what it is with a normal birth.
Nate was born at 2:06AM on 4th December 2013 weighing 4lbs5oz. It was my birthday the day after and he is the best birthday present ever![Cloud 9 :cloud9: :cloud9:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/cloud9.gif)
First born
His first cuddle yesterday, the only thing I wanted on my birthday.
Wide awake today![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
He's doing really well in NICU and will hopefully be home in a few weeks.
