So I'm currently not on any birth control (personal choice after being on it for years and it causing me many issues)
I was wondering whether anyone uses the natural prevention method?

At the moment we use condoms there has been one or two slip ups in the past but nothing ever came out of it! I have a nearly four month old daughter that I breastfeed exclusively and had my first period about five days ago. My question is if you have unprotected sex the few days after you finish your period are the chances of pregnancy definitely low?

We will still continue to use condoms but OH isn't a massive fan of them so it would be nice to not use them a few times a month!

So how reliable is the natural contraception method those who use it? I know people do it by charting their CM and when they will ovulate etc. thanks!

We use NFP. I used to chart my temps on fertility friend every morning to find out when I ovulate. It was very effective for us before TTC. After my daughter was born I tried Mirena and hated it so we are back to NFP. I honestly have not been charting my temps because we don't have sex as often (she hardly sleeps lol) so when we do we use condoms. Once she starts sleeping better I will start charting again.

I tend to ovulate early (between CD8-CD12) so I am better off having unprotected sex late in my cycle.

If you absolutely KNOW your cycle- and it's consistent (most women's flucuate) then it can be pretty reliable.

We thought about it after LO was born- since I'd been tracking my cycle for about 2yrs prior in our TTC journey---and because we have fertility issues-- but, since I have no issues on the pill (and actually LOVE the new pill I'm on as I have very mild symptoms- if any- and no more periods) we decided it wasn't worth taking any chances. And, tbh, the only time I'd say I'm "horny" is right before I ovulate- for the biological reasons ;) Not that it's the only time we DTD- just when I might want it more often ;)

Maybe you could track your cycle for a few months and see what your window would be- you could even use ovulation dip tests at first (they were easier for me- I never could figure out the temping thing)- LOL.

Obviously no method is 100%... so just do what makes sense for you guys :)

I've used NFP for more than a decade. After I had my daughter I had a family member pass away from blood clots attributed to the pill. There was no way I was ever going back to chemical birth control methods again after that. It was 100% reliable between my daughter and son (both of whom were planned and conceived the month I intended) as well as the nearly 10 years between then and now.

My cycle has always been pretty predictable, and once I got into the swing of things I stopped charting temp (mainly paid attention to cervical mucous, position and time of the month). I always abstained from having unprotected sex for three days before and three days after ovulation.

4 days after ovulation up through the time you get your period should be completely safe to have intercourse unprotected (other days will be as well once you establish a solid and predictable pattern).

I started with Billings Ovulation Method, if you'd like more information you can check it out here: https://www.thebillingsovulationmethod.org/

YES! You totally can get to know your body and pinpoint exactly when you are ovulating so that you can have unprotected sex without the risk of becoming pregnant for about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks out of the month.

Hormones wreaked havoc on my system so we have been using NFP/FAM for about 6 years. (with two planned pregnancies during that time as well).

The method I use is called the Sympto-Thermal method. I track my cervical mucus and temperature each morning (I use a monitor called Cyclotest- you can Google it) and the monitor displays a chart of the month with my fertile and non fertile days.

You do have to be vigilant about taking your temperature each morning, but to me its a small price to pay for the freedom condom free sex!

If you have questions feel free to ask :)

I used Fertility friend for my contraception, and condoms on the week around ovulation. I had a 29 day cycle every month, regular as clockwork, it worked and I didnt need any other form of contraception.
