Hi everyone
I've just had a letter from the hospital as I've had a blood test and ultrasound done, it won't let me upload a picture of it so here it is can someone explain this to me please as I'm struggling with it I think all I'm seeing there's something wrong with me thanks:
The blood test done on the 14.8.14 did not show that you had ovulated , but this was too early in the cycle so does not mean that you did not ovulate later on.
If we wanted to regulate your cycle to 28 days it might be reasonable for you to go on Clomiphene 50mg from day 2-6 of your cycle , day 1 being the first day of your period.
I am copying this letter to your doctor. If your doctor is happy to prescribe the Clomiphene for you we would again want to check your progesterone level at around day 21 to 23 day of the cycle.
I am pleased to say that your ultrasound scan report was normal. It does show a number of small follicular cysts in the ovaries, which would fit with a degree of polycystic ovary, which should respond well to Clomiphene.

It doesn't sound like anything to be concerned about at all. Did you go to the doctor originally because your cycles were long and/or irregular? Or because you have been TTC for a very long time with no BFP?

I had a similar situation. I had very irregular cycles since going off the pill two years ago and so when it came time to start TTC I went to the doctor to have everything checked out. The doctor diagnosed me with PCOS based on the fact that my cycles were irregular and they found some small cysts on my ovaries (like they did with you). However, my hormone levels were normal, and I had no other symptoms of PCOS. The doctor wanted to put me on Clomid (Clomid is the brand name of Clomiphene), which is a drug that triggers ovulation. I elected to wait awhile before taking any medication as we had not been trying too long and I like to always pursue natural alternatives before medical options (this is not to say that there is anything wrong with using medications at all, it's just a personal thing). So, I started doing weekly acupuncture to regulate my cycle and improve fertility and 7 weeks later - BFP. Sadly it ended in a miscarriage at 6 weeks, but obviously a good sign for my fertility none the less. I had a doctor tell me there was no way I was ovulating every cycle and I would definitely have to take Clomid to get pregnant, but that didn't end up being the case for me.

Anyway, it looks like there is a possibility that you did not ovulate in the cycle that they drew blood, however that doesn't necessarily mean that there's anything wrong with you. Almost all women have anovulatory cycles (a cycle where you do not ovulate) sometimes, it's perfectly normal. Or, as they said in your letter, you could have just ovulated late. But it doesn't sound like there were any indications that your hormone levels were WAY off. Also, it looks like you have some small cysts on your ovaries, but again, that isn't necessarily a problem, lots of women have cysts come and go on their ovaries and they don't cause any issues. They can sometimes impact your hormone levels to the point of it impacting fertility, but if you aren't having any other symptoms of PCOS (are you overweight? do you have very bad acne? do you have excess body hair?) I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that the cysts are problematic right away.

If you've been trying for a long time to get pregnant, maybe consider taking the Clomid, or look into another medication called Femara. I haven't taken either but there are TONS of women on these boards who have who I'm sure would be happy to tell you their experiences. If you haven't been trying that long and you feel like you can be patient awhile longer, maybe consider not rushing into medical treatment and trying something alternative like acupuncture?

Do you chart your BBT or use OPKs or do anything else to help you to know when/if you're ovulating?

Either way I wouldn't stress at all. Everything in that letter sounds perfectly within the realm of what's normal, and nothing to worry about. I had basically the same report from a doctor and I was pregnant two months later. And even though it ended in a m/c, the doctor confirmed that the m/c had nothing to do with cysts or my hormone levels.

Anyway, hope that helps :)
