So a bit of background, Charlotte was gaining weight really well and feeding really well, she never lost anything after birth as my milk pretty much came straight in.

She has had repeat urine infections which has meant she has lost a lot of weight, she is now just about 11lb at 15 weeks and she has been around this for the last 3 weeks after dropping a lb to it.

She is under consultant care because of the urine infections and also her weight.

I am trying so so hard to stick at exclusively BF. She has to have top ups, so I have been expressing at night so I have milk to give her as top ups during the day.

I've just had her weighed after a week of top ups and she still hasnt put on any weight, so the formula top ups is being brought up again. I need to give her 3oz top ups at every feed, the only problem is I struggle to express this much (that means 15-18oz expressed everyday). Anyone got any tips on how I can up my milk supply to help?

Also she is the happiest baby you have ever met, she really is never unsettled after her feeds or anything so I am really struggling with the fact I need to top up? If she was unsettled/visibly hungry it would be so much easier!

Eat lots of porridge, oats do wonders for supply! You can also get fenugreek capsules from holland & barrett and try those, be warned you will smell like maple syrup though! :haha: Lots of skin to skin time will help too :flower:

Could you see a lactation consultant? For me, if your LO is wetting plenty and is content after a feed, I would be loathe to top up. If your LO has been poorly, she might take a little time to get back on track with her weight.

I would really consider getting a second opinion regarding the top-ups. Alot of doctors don't understand BFing and don't see how a baby can get 'enough' from breastmilk alone. If your doctor doesn't have faith in your milk, then (s)he won't support you in making the best decisions regarding BFing.

I hope your LO is over her infections. They're horrid things, poor mite :hugs:

Great advice from Patch.

If you don't think bubs needs the formula top ups then don't do it. Follow your mummy instincts. Ff top ups can be a very slippery slope.
