I have tried calgel, infant bonjela, anbesol, the lot and someone recommended ashton and parsons teething powder.....so when i went to Boots chemist they say the factory had some recent production issues and its out of stock most everywhere so to order it online or try their own or Nelsons which they had in stock......she said Nelsons was much the same anyway. So i bought a box this morning and wooooooweee! Fabulous!! Bonjela etc only numbs for 5 mins or so and isnt the best but this powder really gave relief for a good couple hours and helped him relax....

So anyway, if you havent tried it already and are pacing the floor with a teether try Nelsons powder, certainly worked for us! :flower:

Glad it worked for you! I might have to invest in some, Louis is teething again and now he likes to bite my fingers with his razor sharp teeth every time I try to put some gel on :haha: xx

Powders are good - it's a shame Ashton's are so hard to come by because I much prefer them to Nelsons. If LO is really suffering though I really recommend Anbesol liquid - it's got anaesthetic in it which works much longer than bonjela or other gels.

Fran was having her worst ever night with teething - she couldn't sleep she was in so much pain, couldn't suck her dummy or even close her mouth. So I jumped in the car and bought some anbesol - 10 mins after applying it she was falling asleep in Steve's arms, it was amazing! I had her in with me that night but she didn't stir at all!

I am sceptical. 'homeopathic' medicine is a load of rubbish. I think it has the same effect as magic healing crystals...and praying!

I'm a "try it and see how it goes" kinda gal lol. I just think that before mass produced chemicals people used all sorts of natural remedies - some of them have got to work!

I totally agree! I've tried Nelsons teetha and it does work so well for my LO :) Great to know that she only takes homeopathic remedy and not chemicals / medicines.

I don't actually believe in homeopathic remedies - think they are aload of balls but Nelsons Teetha have been amazing for LO, especially when she's very angry and upset with her teeth xx

Bit hard to explain improvement in a baby tho after any of the above "interventions" when they can't be effected by placebo theory...

Loads of people swear by amber teething necklaces, tarrot cards, magnetic bracelets, reiki, reflexology, crystal healing, sleeping with herbs under their pillow to ward off evils....
To a scientific person, it doesn't make it any less barmy regardless of how many people believe it to work through coincidence.

Joke- What do you call alternative medicine the has actually be proven to work?

Medicine.

i've heard so many people say how good the teething powders are.
i found anbesol always worked for jake when he was little but i will bear it in mind for the next one.

It's good stuff ain't it.

I found some sachets yesterday from when Katie was teething.

It's fab..... So glad they worked for you!

My LO isn't allowed ANY teething gel, so we had no other option than to try the powders.... Never looked back! xx

I'm a scientific person, I don't believe in tarot cards, crystals etc. But look at how much of modern medicine came from plants- one e.g. Opioid analgesics like morphine and codeine, came from the use of opium from poppies. So I don't find it barmy or a load of rubbish that the matricaria in A&P teething powder might settle inflammation in a baby's gums

I'm a complementary therapist but I'm still very skepical when it comes to homeopathy because the facts are there is absolutely not even 1 tinsy wincy molecule of what they are claiming to be the active ingredient even present in the homeopathic medicines. However, I decided to give Nelsons a try because I figured it couldn't do any harm. And lo and behold it does temporarily work with regards to calming her down. But then you know what its probably because it is essential a sugar pill / powder!!! The ingredients are non existant chamomile, lactose (a disaccharide sugar), xylitol (naturally occuring sugar substitute) and starch (carbohydrate consisting of glucose units). I calm down when I'm fed chocolate / sugar, cos I enjoy the taste of it - fact!!! So I have come to the conclusion that this is in fact what is happening and I have decided not to use them anymore if I can help it because I'm now convinced I would be just creating a sugar habit :nope:

What is better for baby - using teething powders or using calpol?

I don't mean what is more effective, I mean what is better for them in the long run IYKWIM!

There is no chamomile in the medicine though, thats why homeopathic medicine is so safe because it has no trace of the plant at all, apparently it has a memory of the plant having been in the original water mixture but it has been diluted so many times (probably 1000's) that the original ingradient no longer exists. I have no doubt that actual chamomile would work in some way but its not in there.

I've just bought some of the Boots own powders I couldn't decide between those and the Nelsons so got the cheaper ones. Hope they work LO was in teething agony yesterday.
