Hello Ladies this is my birth story -
36 weeks + 4 (Tuesday 15th of may) i woke up in the middle of the night at 1am with contractions, i started to time them and they came regular-ish and painful (but not increasing in pain) i managed to nod off to sleep, waking again in pain at 5am, i pushed through it as it was my partners 21st birthday, around 9am in the morning me, My OH, and BIL went to town to do some shopping and go play some pool for his birthday, after shopping for an hour i couldent take the pain anymore so i headed on up to the hospital which was a 2 minuite bus ride from where we was, and i left OH and BIL in town as i didnt want my OH birthday to be ruined if it was a false alarm, I went to A&E and they wheelchaired me up to L&D, i was put on the monitor, and also checked with the silver impliment (that thing kind of like a dildo) i was screaming through the impliment it was so uncofortable for me, they said my cervix looks closed and they cant see anything bus as i cant stay still long enough for them to check they will have to do an examination with there fingers, so they did that and i turns out i was 2cm Dilated, 100% Effaced, Anterior Cervix and baby was 4/5 Enagaged. - I was admited into hospital and observed over night,
the contractions became alot easier to handle and calmed down by the morning, so later that day they said i was good to go, just needed to check me over ie. blood presure, urine etc.. then boom.. another thing popped up, my blood presure was up and there was protein in my wee.. so i was then admited for monitoring for a further 2 days, after these 2 days everything settled and i was finally released home on the 18th of May.
- after a day of been at home the contractions started again, but i decided to cope with them.. they were painful again but manageable just like the ones on OH' birthday i could talk through them so i wasent worried.
on the 19th of May me and OH DTD which kicked some AWFUL contractions off for about 30 mins, then they settled back to the old ones.. so i didnt worrie, later this day i lost my bloody show.. but yet again was told just to wait everythings fine etc.. A few days past it came to the 22nd of May and me and OH DTD again.. yet again the painful contractions kicked in.. like OH's birthday but a little more painful.. but yet again bareable..., i was too sleep and by 4pm the next day the contractions were a tad worse, so i called L&D - i explained my pain.. i was even crying through some of them, but because yet again they were completely irregular, and not exsacly increasing in pain there and then.. (and the fact i could still talk) the midwife said "take paracetamol, dont bother coming in if you do we wont check you, and we will send you home, if i can talk to you your not in labour, your contractions arnt regular, so your just in early labour try and relax because your been silly and working yourself up" then she went off the phone.., Decided to go to bed early to try and get some sleep.. was up ALL night with the same contractions, irregular, not increasing in pain.. but was making my back REALLY hurt.. especially since this was going on for a week up until now so the cotnractions was taking its toll on my body, and my sleeping..,
12pm 24th of may - trying to get a small nap on the sofa contractions still there but -sigh- still the same pain, still irregular, still able to nod off after a while,
i really need a pee, so i stood up to go to the toilet, at 1:30pm and woosh.. a gush of water came out, so i shot to the floor (not in a dangerous way just so i wasent stood up) and OH grabbed me a towel which i popped underneither me after about a minuite the gush stopped, so i went upstairs to go for the wee i needed,.. although i had a wee i was pretty convinced i just pee'd myself (as all the things the midwife said on the phone made me think nothing would progress), i called the hospital at 2pm and they adviced me to come in to be checked, i toddled round, got dressed, got some things together.., and told OH id go catch the bus.. but for him to stay home again because i dont want him to come all the way to the hospital and it turns out ive pee'd myself :S he was admiment to come but i persuaded him to agree to stay, but he said he wanted to atleast walk me to the bustop - we started to toddle to the busstop about 2:20pm, on the way i rang my sister to ask for advice and explained what happened.. she said "what did the waters smell of etc" and i replied with "erm *shy voice* mans cum :/" and she said thats definetly what my waters smelt of.. so it resured me a tad.. (after walking for 1 minuite towards the bustop a slightly stronger contractions than the rest kicked in, and it was the first that took my speech away slightly, although i could breath through it and talk to my sister.., i came off the phone a minuite later, and said to my OH i couldent make it to the bustop and i started to cry.. i was just so tired, and the contractions was abit more painful and it annoyed me.., so we walked back home.. and he decided to call L&D while i went for another wee at 2:30pm.. i had a wee. walked towards the bathroom door.. and BOOM a massive contraction just kicked in.. completely 1000x more powerful than any that ive had over the last week and half.. i screamed for my OH to come up who was at this point calling for an ambulance i just get screaming and saying "im going to die, im going to die" - "i cant do it" then another scream... i shot towards the bath for some reason my head was saying "get in a ice cold bath" i just ran the bath as quickly as i could.. as cold as i could and shot in it... the lady on the phone was telling my OH to tell me to get out and get on the bed, but i reffused and just couldent the contractions were too intense, i only had 3 strong ones at this point, but i was screaming through them and just kept repating "im going to die", litrally 3 minuites after my OH called the ambulance they were there, they got me out of the bath and onto the bed to check me over, i had another 2-3 contractions in this time, they got me into my OH nightgown and took me to the ambulance where another contraction came on and they gave me Gas & air, after a few sucks on the gas and air my body went limp and i couldent move, (the ambulance men kept asking if i taken anything, drugs etc.. this is asking a girl who, dosent drink, smoke, do drugs.. i dont even have caffine in my tea..) so it really annoyed me.. but im guessing now the Gas and air just didnt work with me.. so each time i had a contraction the gas and air made me go limp and all i could do was move my eyes, mumble, and lift my right thumb to agree to things.., we was rushed to the hospital, and arrived around 2:45pm.. yet again the midwives then asked if i had been taking anything.. which started to really annoy me.., they checked me quickly, got me some water for my dry mouth from the Gas and air.. and the contractions at this point was automatically getting me to push, which obviously they kept telling me not too,.. but it was natural they said "dont push theres nothing to push Lauren" (GRR my name is Laura) but i couldent be arsed to say anything.., they re-checked me as i shut my legs in the first check.. turns out i got to 10cm dilated at home.. and didnt even no about it until the last 30 mins of contractions ie. (they were the ones i couldent cope with) so the midwives instantly told me to push.. the contractions were now back on back.. but when they told me to push i kept shutting my legs and pushing.. i dont no why i just did.. at about 3:01pm my OH looked down and said i can see babys hair.. the midwives told me to push and yet again i shut my legs.. my OH looked into my eyes (of the small amount of time they would stop spinning because of the gas and air and said Push laura he's coming ) i gave the biggest push i ever did, and with that sweet look and mellow voice from my OH i pushed my baby boy out by 3:02pm on the 24th of may he was born at a small 5pound6ounces ! my Oh just burst into tears (ive never seen him like that), he cut our little warriors umiblical cord, and seperated us from the last 9 months together as mummy and fetus, and made us a complete family! it was the most amazing moment of my life!
- My placenta was small so they belive thats why Dallas was small
- i was up and about within 20 minuites of having him i felt completely fine, i could walk, i could pee etc..
Dallas had to spend 2 days up on NICU just for some very mild breathing problems.. then he spent a day downstairs with me, and we was relased yesterday!
Final points -
- Make sure your mum dosent go on holiday thinking you will go full term! i didnt!
- DTD dose induce labour contractions !
- NEVER listen to a midwife that things irregular contractions dont do anything.. i was having irregular copable contractions up until the last 30 minuites.. and they got me to 10cm dilated!
- Gas and Air works a treat if you dont mind been paralised :S!
- the contractions i was having prior to the last 30 mins made my OH think when i was screaming i was over reacting (as he though theres not way i she could be 10cm, this must be the start of active labour) so the moral is dont egnore any contractions you have!
- My OH is the most amazing man in the world! he was so supportive and strong through everything! he's never been this strong through anything! he's 1 of 2 amazing men in my life, the second been my beautiful little boy Dallas Drew!
i'm the happiest mummy in the world, and just adjusting to now having a family! im knackered and have sore cracked bleeding nipples from breast feeding, but my little boy! oh he is worth it !
