Well, I'm joining you amazing ladies. We hit the 18 month mark and had one mc and no luck since. I've had initial bloodwork done which shows I'm healthy and in "working order" and my husbands semenanalysis came back normal. Next up, I will do the HSG test on day 7 of my next cycle.

I'm terrified....can anyone tell me what to expect?

Hi! I had my HSG done on Monday and posted my experience on a thread. ive cpied it fo you. sorry if TMI.

As i was nervous about having my HSG done and im sure there are many who are as nervous as i was i thought i would give you a breakdown of my appointment and what happened. I dont know if it wil be the same for everyone but here is my experience:

Arrived at hospital and was given 2 hospital gowns to put on (one done up properly and the other to go backwards to cover yourself) The nurse checked the day of my last AF and also checked that i was not still bleeding. I confirmed the date and said i wasnt. I then sat outside an Xray room with my OH while waiting for the Dr. When the DR arrived i was taken into the Xray room. OH wasnt allowed in due to the Xrays but had 3 lovely nurses and 1 Dr (who needs to work on her people skills but was nice enough). The doctor went through my last AF dates again and asked if i knew what was going to happen. I had had the leaflet beforehand so i said yes i did. I signed the consent form and was told to lie on the Xray table (had to use step ladder to get on it as about 4/5ft up). I then had to shimmy to the end of the bed, as close as possible to that my bum was by the edge but still had room for my feet so i did so. They asked me to get into position as if having a smear - feet together knees down (no time to be modest!! lol) The Dr then inserted a spectulum (i think) and then inserted a catheter tube into the cervix that had a little baloon on the end of it. She then inflated the baloon. Then a radiographer came in - confirmed name and cycle dates AGAIN. She was sat in the corner watching the computer screen to see where the dye went. At this point the nurses moved me from the edge of the table to the middle for the xray machine. I was just glad i didnt have to shimmy as didnt wanna move anything - they moved the table. When that was done and she was ready the radiographer asked the Dr to start. She put the dye - which was clear -through the catheter tube via a syringe. When the dye went in i felt slight discomfort - no pain just weird sensation. After 2 mins the radiographer said all done and that was it. They removed the catheter and told me to use a sanitary towel as you will lose the dye. The lovely nurse made me a cuppa and then i was on my way. I was all ready to go back to work but the nurse said not to go to work and to just go home and relax all day. Which is what i did. All in all not a bad experience. No pain and over quickly.

I can't give advice on the hsg but welcome to ltttc! All the girls are friendly :) :hugs: Hope your stay is short!

Hi.

I had my HSG nearly 2 weeks ago (there is a post about it somewhere and on my journal) and it was fine. Try not to worry about it (which I know is hard).

I read up on it and was expecting period pain cramps but I actually had no pain. I had slight cramping just before bed that night but nothing that needed any pain killers.

I took all the drugs they gave me at the right time before my appointment and it was pretty much as the above poster said.

I had a pregnancy test first just to check then off to the x-ray department. The radiographer was lovely and chatted to me the whole time about Christmas.

The x-ray machine was above me on the bed (also had to climb a few steps to the bed!). I just tried to relax and chat with the radiographer. I had to have the speculum changed over as I have a tilt but all in all it was like having a smear.

The doctor started to remove the speculum and I thought 'now time for the dye' and he said 'all done'. I was surprised as I hadn't felt a thing! The doctor showed me the images after which was quite cool!

Thanks ladies!! I think I just need to stop searching the Internet!! There are some scary stories out there. I have a pretty high pain tolerance and I know that this test is the next step in hopefully getting our wishes granted. I'll let you all know how it goes in the next week or so! Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Hey all,

I thought my HSG my pretty damn uncomfortable. I had to take a cab home even though I live four blocks away from the hospital because I had a hard time walking.

Luckily, it doesn't take very long though. Pain is temporary, right? Be brave! It should be nothing compared to labour!! hehehe.

Off to the doctor for my HSG test.....SO nervous!!!!!

Blocked left tube and tilted uterus. I'll start chlomid next cycle.

Awe honey I sympathise. I found out I had a blocked right tube a couple of months ago. I'm on Femara instead of Clomid. If I haven't BFP by April I'm flying abroad for the tube unblocking procedure, which is going to cost around 700 euros. Its something to think about getting donex

Agreed....I was pretty uncomfortable as well. I'm glad it's over and done but I was in quite a bit of pain as well. Not just the cramping but the pinching down below, too. Ick! My doctor even said that some people have no pain and others can have a lot. It's just how your body reacts!

Cooch..hi there :) Can i just butt in and ask you a question?! I didnt realise there was a procedure to unblock tubes? I just had a lap and dye and although both tubes look open there is some question over the left one as it seemed slow for the dye to go through. I also had endo removed from the left side and was told i have a tilted womb....wtf never heard of that either, but i think he said around 20% of woman have it. Why do the docs come and talk to you after you have just woke up after the operation all groggy and not quite with it....i cant remember half of what he said!! I have an appointment next week to discuss results in depth but i'm sure he said something about if i became pregnant it might be etopic in that tube? Where abroad would you have to go for this procedure? Thanks for any advice.

Hi Sam_1980-I know you weren't asking me anything but I just wanted to mention that I also have a tilted uterus. My OB told me it can make it tough for sperm to get in to meet the egg. I've read about it and a lot of people haven't had any trouble getting pregnant with this condition. I also read that many women with a tilted uterus who do get pregnant will end up with a normal uterus after their first child because the pregnancy will shift it. Good luck to you! It sounds like we have have a similar situation!

Hi Mama_d :hugs:

Thank you so much for your reply. I just had my lap and dye done on Wednesday there, i'm still in a lot of pain, but i'm so glad i had it done. I've been ttc for over 10 years, but just recently started seeking treatment. I'd never heard of a tilted womb....can it really stop the sperm from reaching the egg...it would explain why i've been ttc all these years....that makes me sad then, but i have an appointment with the doc next week to discuss the results so i should try not to get too worked up over it just yet - but it would explain alot wouldnt it...esp in my case :(

What is the next step for you, will you just take clomid in the hope that you ovulate from your right tube? I wonder if my doc will suggest that for me? You only need one tube...thats what i hear anyway :) Hopefully this tilted womb thing wont cause us further probs. I'll keep you posted, and please let me know how you get on with the clomid...fingers and toes crossed for you.

Sam
