arrrrrghghhhh I have an interview for a new job on monday. This is our first month TTC so not putting too much hope on catching (but would be amazing!).

So. 1) do i stop TTC for a few months so im entitled to mat leave? p.s. does anyone know how long you have to work somewhere before you get it?

2) if we do catch preg this month and i get the job. do i tell them?? even though by the time i start i would only be like one month.

i havent actually go the job yet but feel incredible guilty already!!!

opinions please ladies xxx

I know what you mean though! I have been offered a new job, and am still TTC. I'll just have to deal with it once it happens. But I dont plan on telling my new employer that i am TTC.

Thanks so much thats really helped. No I dont plan on telling them either. And I suppose by the time you go on Mat Leave if we fall preg straight away it will have been at least 8 months anyway which is a long time to work somewhere really isnt it. So I guess they wouldnt be too p'eed!

I know that were I work I will be fine, I have worked for the same place for nearly 4 years. But i think it has to be a minimum of a year to be able to gain the whole maternity pay etc.

also I dont know if this will help??

Also I just changed the first link as I put up the Paternity one and not the Maternity one. :S

Thanks alot silvershadow.

I'm more worried about pissing them off to be honest! Like starting there and then announcing that i'm off on mat leave! But i suppose theres no saying we will conceive straight away. I have worked for this company in the past so im pretty sure they'll understand and i'll definatley go back after mat leave. Im getting paid pretty crap wages at the moment so if i do get this new job we'l be able to save more and so if we dont get full mat pay then we'll have something behind us. exciting times! hope i get the job now!! lol

I don't know how things work in your country but here you do not have to tell an employer that you are pg, nor can they deny you a job or fire you because you are pg. So it's totally up to you.

I dont really have any advice for you, but just wanted to say im in exactly the same position!
I reallyy dont know what to do and its annoying being confused :/
hope you work it out soon hun xx

go for the new jobs!! You need to make sure your life is sorted out first, you may not conceive straight away, so you need to be happy in your work dont you? :) Just play thing by ear and go with the flow. x

I agree and I am in the same boat. Ttc and searching for a new job. I think in most places they have to give you benefits of you have been there for 6 months. But in NYS maternity pay is terrible. 175$ a week and they expect you to live off that. Thankfully they let you use sick and vacation time to cover the difference.

I think it depends on the company's policies hun, my place stated consecutive work of 26 weeks to be entitled to mat pay, so we waited til I passed the 6 month mark. But all depends on you situation, I was out of a perm job for a year before I got the position I'm at now so we knew it wouldn't have been right for us. Bottom line is if you're luck and catch quick you still have 8 and a bit months so.... Lol xxxx

Thanks for your help guys! Interview is in a couple of hours. eek!! Annoyingly I ovulate today so think i've probably this months boat for TTC anyway! At least if i get the job thats a few more weeks that im not pregnant job wise. LOL Its a job ive wanted to do for aggggges so im ok with waiting a few weeks for that all important BFP!

I'm ttc and looking for a job too. I have an interview on the 21st and could potentially be pregnant when I have the interview (although I wouldn't know for sure, I'll be testing a few days after if af doesn't show), it's only our first month though so I'm not expecting it to happen just like that. If I get the job and I'm pregnant straight away then I plan on working till I'm as far along as possible, so I can save up money and hopefully qualify for the full maternity benefits and show the place I'll be working that I'm willing to put a shift in.

Sorry I don't have any useful advice I just though I'd let you know im in a similar situation! Good luck with your interview and TTCing!

Ohhhh Mrsb how did the interview go?
:)

I think it went ok!! Just waiting to hear about a second interview now. my DH says we should wait to TTC now - only a few weeks. In case I get the job ! Feel a bit fed up about that but I know he is right... :dohh:
