Hi there. Me and my partner are 30 weeks pregnant with our son and just can agree on a name at all! His favourite name is Maxwell but I'm not completely sold on it. We have a huge list of names we like... And he needs two middle names, one of which will be John. The surname is Clarke. Can you help us?

Alfie, Ashley
Bobby, Braedon
Calvin, Chase
Dexter, Dino (Deano)
Flynn, Freddie, Finley
Harley, Harvey
Jayden, Joshua
Kenley, Kaiden, Kilian, Kyran (Kieran), Kyan (Kian)
Lachlan, Layne
Maxwell, Maxton
Nate
Oakley, Oscar, Owen
Preston
Reuben, Roan (Rowan)
Samson
Tye
Xavier

Alfie - 0/10... dont think 'ie' names age well
Ashley - 2/10... its ok but some counties see it as a girls name (weirdly)
Bobby - 5/10... like it but not sure it will age well
Braedon - 3/10... interesting
Calvin - 2/10... makes me think of underwear
Chase - 6/10... nice and interesting
Dexter - 2/10... nerd/murderer not good assosiations
Dino (Deano) - 4/10... interesting, my dad like this name
Flynn - 3/10... not my taste but ok

Lachlan - 3/10... not my taste
Layne - 5/10... nice, interesting but may suit a girl better
Maxwell - 5/10... cool name but will age well

Tye - 3/10... not my taste
Xavier - 1/10... really dont like this, it seem trendy now a days

Harley Chase / Chase Harley
or
Nathanial Oakley

are best imho

Alfie - Not a fan...I'd also suggest Alfred as full name
Ashley - Too feminine
Bobby - With full name Robert, it's nice
Braedon - Love this, nice spelling too!
Calvin - Makes me think of Calvin & Hobbes. Or Calvin Klein, neither of which would put me off
Chase - I'm indifferent to this name
Dexter - Love the nn Dex
Dino (Deano) - Not a fan
Flynn - Not a fan
Freddie - Full name Frederick and it's perfect!
Finley - Love this actually, along with Finnegan
Harley - Harley Davidson. It's just ok.
Harvey - Prefer this to Harley
Jayden - Love this but it's pretty popular in my area
Joshua - Personally not a fan
Kenley - Sounds feminine. What about Kenneth Lee?
Kaiden - It's not bad. Much prefer Jaiden
Kilian - Don't like
Kyran (Kieran) - Sounds feminine to me
Kyan (Kian) - It's ok, not my taste at all though
Lachlan - Don't like
Layne - I could see this as a middle name rather than first.
Maxwell - LOVE this!!
Maxton - This isn't too bad either, actually!
Nate - Definitely would use Nathan/Nathaniel as full name.
Oakley - LOVE it!! Also Oaklen
Oscar - Makes me think of Oscar the Grouch. Dislike.
Owen - It's a nice strong masculine name, I like.
Preston - Sounds odd to me. Indifferent.
Reuben - Just makes me think of the sandwich which puts me off.
Roan (Rowan) - Definitely prefer Rowan. Just want to point out I would pronounce Roan similar to moan whereas Rowan would be Row-en
Samson - Too close to Samsung for me, but weirdly enough I don't hate it
Tye - Prefer Tyler!!
Xavier - LOVE this! It's on my top 3!

Seems both of you like Maxwell... Which is my partners favourite... What middle names would you say go well with this?

I love love love half your names and really dislike the others (sorry)

In sort of an order of fav the ones I love and would have on my list are

Finley (prob what we will use if we have a boy)
Reuben
Oscar
Kian
Harvey
Braeden would spell Brayden
Owen
Xavier
Flynn
Rowan

Don't really like Alfie but love Archie
Ashley is ok
Like Nate as a nn for Nathaniel
Like maxwell but would personally just use max

Just to add more confusion other boys names I have on my list

Zachary
Ellis
Jacob (jake)
Leo
Alexander (xander)

Maxwell goes well with short, modern sounding, nature-ish, cool names but I would avoid X,Y,Z names

maybe things like:

Cole
Asher
Lane
Jett
Oakley
Slate
Lake

and so on

classic names always go:

James, Thomas, John etc...

I like Maxwell John (one of your two syllable choices) Clarke!

I love the majority of your name choices, I think we have very similar taste! My top favourites are:

Xavier (Other 'X' name I love is Xander)
Reuben
Oscar
Maxwell
Kaiden
Kyan (would spell Kian)
Jayden
Harvey
Harley
Flynn
Oakley
Freddie
Finley
Braedon
Bobby
Alfie

I think out of your choices, these middle names go really well with Maxwell:
Maxwell Nate
Maxwell Owen
Maxwell Layne - love this combination
Maxwell Chase

I also really like Maxwell Jae/Jay and Maxwell Riley

What about Jonathan instead of John?

Maxwell Jonathan Nate Clarke for example?

These are the names on your list that I like:

Chase
Finley
Jayden
Kaiden,
Killian
Kian
Lachlan
Maxwell
Oakley
Preston
Sam
Xavier

Lots of good choices to work with!

Top 3 combos:

Preston John Maxwell
Lachlan John Maxwell
Jayden John Maxwell

How about Maddox or Paxton - like either of those?

if you like Maxwell Johnathon Nate then go for it

I can see no reason it would be considered a bad name

I think I'm gonna go with that! :) thank you all for your help!
