Finally getting around to writing my birth story, hope I don't go on too much!! lol.
I'd been having signs and symptoms for weeks in the lead up to giving birth but nothing major just lots and lots of BH which I didn't really have many of with my son... They were getting stronger by the day, sometimes regular and sometimes not but come Thursday 29th Dec I lost some bright red blood which soon turned pink. Had my MW appointment that day and baby was 1/5 engaged and she said it was my bloody show and thought labour was gonna be very soon. A few more days passed with lots of BH's but nothing else and then on New Years Eve I woke up about 8am with really strong pains which I thought were real contractions and they were every 5 mins. I then went toilet and def had more of my show as it had plug in in too!!
I carried on having regular pains for a good few hours. Me, OH and my son went shopping and I also brought a birthing ball to help things along as the contractions weren't progressing and still weren't very painful. About 2pm they started to become really irregular and then just dissapeared. After that I had the occasional pain but nothing major so thought that was that for another day and they must have been BH.
We went to my sisters for New Years Eve, again getting the occasional pains but nothing major until just before 12am when they started to come every 5 mins again but they weren't that painful and only lasted 30 seconds. We left at half 12 and I got into bed feeling fine as again they had stopped!!! About half 1 they suddenly came on again and felt a lot stronger and by 2am I was in agony. They went from every 5 mins to every 2/3 mins and suddenly were lasting a minute. I was on the toilet and was having bad diarreoah along with the contractions and I knew I had to ring hospital as I was suddenly in agony. They told me to come straight in so I woke OH up (he wasn't happy as thought it was a false alarm again) and got my son up too and we went to drop him back off at my sisters who luckily lives on the way to the hospital. I was in so much pain and they just wouldn't stop coming.
We got to hospital at just before 3am and I was struggling to walk but we finally got seen and was sent straight to a room on the ward for those who needed extra care due to me having a PPH last time with my son. I had to be helped onto the bed and the midwife had to remove my trousers as I physically couldn't move I was in so much pain but coping with breathing through each contraction. Midwife went through my notes and put a canular in my arm just incase I had another bleed and they needed to inject me with anything etc.
I was given Gas and Air immediately, I actually demanded an epidural as soon as I got there knowing full well I didn't actually want one lol, she said I didn't need one and I didn't mention it again lol! When she checked me at about 3.15am I was 7cm!! I was saying that I had the urge to push as soon as I got to hospital but come 3.30am I knew it was time and I turned from laying on my back on the bed to leaning over the bed on all fours which really helped. At 3.35am I started to push, no idea how many pushes there were but I knew as soon as she was crowning although the pain was no where near as bad as it was with my son. I was then told to do a few small pushes and out she came at 3.39am so only 4 mins pushing!
After that it all was a bit hectic. Was given the injection to deliver the placenta (with my son I never had contractions, took ages to deliver and I think that's what caused my hemmorage). After I had the injection I still didn't have any contractions to push! Suddenly a load of people came in and the MW said I was having another big bleed
No idea what happened apart from I was given something for my blood to clot, put on a drip and the doctor was there for ages trying to get my placenta out. Also had to have a cathater placed for a few hours which wasn't nice! During this time baby had to be removed from the room and given a small dose of oxygen as she wasn't breathing much. OH was then given her, I still hadn't held or seen her properly until the bleeding was stabilised. I lost 1.2 litres of blood but luckily my iron levels were really good so didn't need a blood transfusion.
Anyways everything was fine in the end, we got moved to another room where I tried to relax but was puking everywhere so got given an injection for the sickness and was also stitched up as had a 2nd degree tear. We then had journalists from the local paper come round and take pics as she was a New Years baby!
Finally got moved onto the postnatal ward at about 11am, only had to stay one night thank god!
Amber Lily Hallick was born at 3.39am on New Years Day and weighed a massive 9lb 14oz. Here are some pics!
