I'm writing up a list for the bits and bobs I need.. I don't really have any newborn bits left over from DD apart from a few bits of clothes ...

What do I need? I remember the obvious? Sorting out pram, car seat, crib ... But need reminding of those smaller things that were a god send in the first few months?

Thanks .. Hopefully this thread can help first time mammas too!!

:flower:

Isn't it amazing what you forget, even though you swear you couldn't possibly? :haha:

I know each baby is different, but here's what I used with my son when he was newborn (besides the obvious crib, diapers & wipes, car seat and stroller... lol)

Receiving blankets (probably about 10-12, as for me they doubled as burp cloths too)
Clothes (probably about 10-12 of each item as well, depending on how much laundry you want to do vs availability :haha: My son was a diaper-blow out expert, so I went through quite a few outfits during the week)
sleep sack or pajamas
Nasal aspirator
Saline drops
Vitamin K drops (this may depend on your pediatrician. Mine recommended them for breastfed babies)
gas drops / gripe water
hats (for cooler weather)
mittens (if baby tends to scratch themselves)
bottles
pacifier
baby carrier
diaper rash cream
infant bath tub
diaper bag

The one thing I couldn't have gone without was the rock 'n' play... my son refused to sleep flat on his back, and had reflux. So he slept in in, napped in it, and I was able to place him in it to go use the bathroom, do chores, etc... (he hated swings).

Things for me personally:

breast pump & pads (if you're planning to nurse)
milk bags to store extra milk
nipple cream
extra long & thick pads (for the weeks after delivery)
nursing pillow

That's all I can think of off the top of my head! I'm sure there will be more added by others. :flower:

Amazing! :haha: thank you! You've just reminded me of so many things! :)

I was making a list of stuff to pack in my hospital bag and diaper bag (having a c-section) and at first I was like eh, I don't need much... but I google'd it just to make sure I didn't miss anything and holy moly I forgot SO much important stuff. It was only 2 years ago and somehow it's just all gone from my brain lol.

I second the nipple cream, you can never have enough of that stuff.
The gas drops were also a necessary item for us.
Don't know your sleeping arrangements but my dd slept with a sound machine (and still does) and we will definitely get one for this baby as well.
Lots of bibs - my dd had reflux also and just when you thought she'd puked up as much as she could, there was always more and it would save me from having to change her clothes again.
Nail clippers
Baby soap, lotion
Boogie wipes - love those things
Humidifier

Hope that helps!

Thank you! More things I had forgotten... And funnily enough I had actually forgotten about the hospital bag :haha: I know ... It was only a year and a half ago for me! Phaha!

Yes! Lol don't forget about you! With my DD I just went into triage to get something checked out, fully expecting to go home right after so I had NOTHING with me. So all this stuff is now trying to plan in advance, and if I ever need to go in for something, I'm bringing it with me!

Here's my hospital bag list (stuff for myself) in case you're curious... and keep in mind I'm having a c-section so I have a longer stay!:

Nursing bras
toothbrush/toothpaste
comb
shampoo/conditioner
hair products - not a lot, but something to keep my frizzy curls somewhat contained so I can feel human while walking around
phone charger
comfy shirts/tank tops
comfy loose pants/shorts
belly compression wrap
razor - only for my armpits - last time I was in the hospital like 7 days and I felt like a hairy animal!! I hated it
lanolin cream
slippers - i hated walking around in those hospital socks
deodorant
prenatal vitamins - will continue to take while breastfeeding
lotion

I may be forgetting something, but that's what I've got so far!

Here's my diaper bag list:

take home outfit
a few onesies since I will be there a few days
blankets
diapers and wipes - although I heard the hospital may provide it so not sure.
bottles - I may exclusively pump like last time, haven't decided yet

The diaper bag list seems short but the hospital does provide you with all kinds of other stuff so you really don't need much. Like pacifiers, hats, blankets, breast pump and parts, nasal aspirator, diaper creams, etc.

I'm a bit far off from getting these items just yet, but in case any one else comes up with something not listed above, I'm stalking for further updates! :)

I got a really good pregnancy app which told me some stuff but didn't mention some stuff you both have. I swear it's gunna look like I'm moving out the day I go into labour.... Xxxx

3 baby grows
3 vests

Probably more stuff but im struggling to think with a 3 year old running around :-/

These are good lists! I won't be taking pads or big panties with me, I was content using the big mesh panties and pads the hospital provided last time, so I'll just use theirs again for now. Keep in mind most of my list is just for comfort items - they're not all necessities - the hospital will provide everything you NEED, for both you and baby, so don't stress too much about trying to pack your whole house! :)

Went through everyone's lists and have now added to mine! I forgot about adding nipple cream and pads to my list :p I remember those being a MUST for me.

My list is pretty specific. I have exactly what I want and how much it's going to cost. Helps me stay on budget.

I also have a list of items I don't HAVE to have right away that can wait. Like a high chair... jumparoo... things that I can get as baby grows :)

I really like lists :)

Also, I found I packed WAY too much in my hospital bag first time around. Will be only packing the absolute needed items.

In the UK your expected to provide everything yourself x

I definitely packed way too much my first time around as well! This time, I'm only packing the necessary items, and if there's things I think I may need... well... I may pack a 2nd bag and leave it in the car. If I need it, I can send hubby for it.

A little tip for those who plan on vaginal births - put some pads in water until they're soaked like a sponge. Put them in a little plastic baggie and freeze them. They make GREAT ice packs to help with the pain and swelling "down there" after birth. (leave them in the baggie when using, by the way...lol) My basic set up was a pair of granny panties :haha: a thick pad, an ice pack, then a small cloth or wipe soaked with witch hazel on top of the ice pack. It was very soothing.

Also, don't forget to pack either food or snacks for your hubby. Or at least plenty of change for the vending machine.

I took 2 separate changes of clothes for LO... good thing, since he peed all over one of them before we even left!

Another note (you may know already), unless you're comfortable going completely bra-free during delivery, make sure you wear one that doesn't have an underwire. They won't let you keep it on just in case you have to be taken to surgery, etc... Wear a nursing bra or sports bra of some kind.

The holy muslin cloths!! I used those bad boys all the time and for everything!
