What do you guys think of this name?

It's said like: NY-REE.

I think it's pretty but I'm wondering if it's too erm, exotic for OH's tastes.

I am assuming for a girl? I think the way it is pronounced is nice but the spelling will be a problem IMO.

Lovely sounding name....but wow that spelling is mis-leading!

Yeah i dont like the spelling of the name either hun, its a lovely name though

I think it's a nice name - just move to NZ and the spelling won't be a problem :)
You do kind of pronounce the g a bit though. I'm not sure how you'd spell it phonetically... The ng is a bit like in sing?

Love the name how its pronounced, but agree with the others on the spelling

Oh sorry hun i don't like the spelling or the name, I prefer nyrah instead of nyree x

I like it - I went to school with a Ngaire. Lots of people have to spell their names so it wouldnt be the end of the world if LO has to do so!

I've heard of someone called Nyrie (spelled like that) I like it. However I think I would be annoyed if that was my name and people kept calling me 'un-gare'.

lol I don't know how to spell it phonetically either! I met a girl working at a grocery store with me with the name and I didn't think about how much I like it until now!

& people used to pronounce her name "Na-gaire" when they read her name tag

But if you really read it, it is pronounced as it's written.. like ng ai re

I don't like it. TBH.
It reminds me of a bad word.

ETA: I like how it sounds. If it was spelled differently I would absolutely love it.

Hi everyone, I'm new to all of this but I'm about to blow my cover because my name is Nyree!

Having lived with the name for years and years I would highly recommend it for a girl... why? Because you grow up and no-one else has the same name. And almost without fail most people think it's unusual / pretty and you always get nice comments!

I believe the origins of Nyree are Maori hence the Ngaire spelling. Common in New Zealand but sure enough over here I just don't think anyone would get it. It's also commonly used as a girls name in Armenia.

The downside? Sometimes you get...

Them: "What's your name"?
Me: "Nyree"
Them: "Eh? Irene / Nyra / Neerie"

You catch my drift :winkwink:
