I AM IN AGONY i cant even put my clothes on as anything that touches my nipples makes me scream in agony.
I have been putting daktarin on them after each feed.
Using nipple shields to prevent the infection going back and forth.
Pumping when i can so he doesnt have to feed off my nipples.
Sterilising EVERYTHING the minute it leaves his mouth ie bottles, dummies nipple shields.

help!!!

yes it sucks :( i have been experiencing this too. the pain is less for me when i put vinegar and bifidus regularis powder on them after each feed. also Gentian Violet worked overnight to get rid of pain and raised red areas. also expose your nipples to air as much as possible! it'll eventually pass, just hang in there! :hugs:

wats bifidus regularis powder and Gentian Violet?
and is it bog standard vinagar?

also that stuff they tell u to give the baby ho the hell are u meant to keep it on there as long as poss? mikey just wallows it straight down?

may i ask what the stuff is that is for your LOs mouth?

gentian violet is an antifungal agent, it is called it's name because it is purple! and stains things purple. like my LOs mouth, and my nipples. hehe.
bifidus, or acidopholus are live bacteria (like in yogurt) that help restore the mouth (and nipples) to their normal flora.

here is a good page: https://members.ll.net/naturalmothering/thrush.html
here is another: https://www.ehow.com/how_2169886_treat-infant-mother-thrush-naturally.html

regular white vinegar is great, i use apple cider vinegar. use for your nipples and also for baby's mouth.

the thing is that is prescribed here in the US by doctors for infant oral thrush is called Nystatin. However, it does not work 90 percent of the time because it's full of sugar!!! and sugar feeds the yeast and makes it grow. SO most people here use alternative natural ways to take care of it.

its nystatin.
i think i have white wine vinagar so what do i do with the vinigar with regards to my son?

Hi Mrs Q.
I struggled with thrush for ages! Here are a few things I learnt:
Wash your nipples after every feed with white wine vinegar diluted with water.
If you are being treated LO needs to be as well, even if they have no symptoms as otherwise you'll just pass it backwards and forwards between you.
The treatment they give to LO is nystan drops, but oral daktarin gel works better. It is available OTC but is only lisences for babies over 4 months, so tell them it is for you! You put it on your nipples and that way LO gets a coating in their nouth without you having to smear it round in there. IT is messy but it works! I did this for a bit then I moved on to daktarin cream which is less messy.
Acidopholus tablets really help, take a high dose, you can get them in any health food store and they are usually kept in the fridge.
Getting genetian violet in the UK is virtually impossible as it is banned here, but you can probably buy it from overseas on the internet.
Try to cut out sugar as much as possible since that feeds yeast. Tbh I think the reason I got thrush in the first place was becasue when I strated BF i basically lived on chocolate and cake.
If it is really bad you need to take an oral medication as the cream alone won't clear it up. This is called fluconazole. Doctors are reluctant to prescribe it so you have to really push, as it is not licensed for use in BF women, however there are lots of studies to show it is safe and effective (I read some of them!) and some docs will prescribe it. There is a really good website with loads of info on this that you can print out and take to the docs, but I can't remember what it is! Hopefully someone here will know, someone recommended it to me, but I can't remember who, maybe Dacosta?

Sorry this is such a long post, I became something of anexpert on thrush! Mine took about 3 weeks to clear up and it was miserable, but it does get better quicker if you get the right treatment.

i suggest plain white vinegar or apple cider vinegar. make a solution of 50/50 water to vinegar. swab your nipples and with a qtip or cotton ball swab the inside of your baby's mouth.
if you can, try and find gentian violet over the internet, it works better than ANYTHING i've tried and also better in all the women i've studied, and has always been recommended first in all of my midwifery and lactation consultant classes. swab nipples and inside of baby's mouth with it once every day for 7 days.
get a good (Acidopholus) probiotic for yourself in capsule form, and if you can get it, a probiotic powder for your baby. i put a pinch in her mouth 3 times a day.

Oh, I also forgot to say, change your breast pads after every feed. Gets a bit expensive and tedious but it does help to stop the thrush from festering away in there! I hope someone comes on here who can remember what that website was. It was really good and informative. I am off to bed now but I'll try and search it out for you in the morning. xx

here you go, this is the info my MW gave me to give to my doctor.

thrush is horrendous; i read somewhere some women would rather go through labour again! it will pass but can take a ciuple of weeks to clear up
