Ok, so I'm stumped and have a question...

Me and the OH went to view a house on Saturday and everything about the house was perfect except for one little detail, the heating system.

The house doesn't have gas central heating, and the only means of heat, is little wall mounted (manually mounted, not fitted!) electric heaters... :nope:

Apart from the unsightly look of them, would these babies be expensive to have? It's a two story house, 2 bedroom town house. It's no on the end of the row, so is surrounded by two houses, meaning only the front and back walls are outside ones. There is only two of us, and will most likely be in one room at a time, rather than in seperate rooms, and out most of the day as we both work.

Anyone else have electric heating? :hugs:

I live in one large room, like a studio flat, and have a wall mounted electric heater and to be quite frank, it's rubbish.

It would be worth buying a gas heater, they work out cheaper then most other options but you do need to buy the calor gas bottles, which you can get from most petrol stations. I'm not sure how long they usually last but a friend of mine chose this option over the storage heaters in her home.

Or, you could buy an oil filled electric heater, I've heard those are good too and cost effective.

I don't have either because I can't afford to buy them so I leave the electric heater on 24/7 and the place is still freezing cold most of the time.

Hope this helps x x

Thanks Moomad, certainly helped with the decision process.

Think we are going to view another couple this week, and if the house is still up for rent should we not like any, then we'll use it as a fall back.

If it goes, its no great loss really!

hey hun ,

Ive lived in flats with both gas central heating and electric heating... and i would never go back to electric heating ..... It cost us an absolute fortune and electric heaters were rubbish... saying that, that was an ancient electric heating system, so the more modern ones may be better :)

Oh no Gilli, these are like ones you can buy in a shop, metal ones, but they are physically mounted onto the walls with plugs that plug into sockets!

Wasn't impressed to be honest, so was hoping to get a reduced rate on the rent seeing as it was £495 for a 2 bed town house, which wasn't at all big. They usually go for around £450 in that area too.

Hey hun,

mmmmm... yeah they sound like pretty modern ones, but electric is certainly more expensive than the gas...

We are just about to move house aswell, and we stopped even looking at houses with the white metre electric heating anymore, because it cos us so much....

Its rubbish tho cos you can get a really gorgeous house for a good price and then u realise its got electric heating, and it lets it down a bit :(

The place we are in just now, we thought it was gas as there are proper radiators in all the rooms but when we moved in we realised it a weird kinda "wet electric" whatever that means.... it uses electric to heat water rather than gas then puts it round the radiators, it seem slightly more efficient but not as cheap as gas !

They're very expensive and as for the calor gas ones, my friends central heating broke and she coudn't afford to fix it and she spends a whopping £30 a week on gas

You ladies have just made up my mind for me :D
Rang them back today and told them no we weren't interested.

I hope we get a house soon, I'm going bonkers :(

Hello everyone

Today there are many types of heaters like space heaters, panel heaters, storage heaters, available in the market today. These all heaters are energy efficient and less power consuming too. If you are going to buy heater for your home then according to me you need to buy separate heaters for every room. Because a single heater will not be able to warm up your complete house. You just go for the panel heaters. These heaters are very thin and easy to fit any where in the house. And yeah i must say more energy efficient too.

thanks.

yeah they are more expensive and also normally dry out the air more than central heating.
