I really don't know what to do.

I was originally breastfeeding Ava but it was very difficult. She wanted feeding ALL the time and would just throw everything back up and then want feeding all over again and it made her really grumpy.
So i tried putting her on the normal from birth SMA. She was still sicking it up but was a little less grumpy. But then it got worse and it went back to her wanting to be fed all the time again. So then I tried SMA extra hungry formula and it suited her well. She was getting full on it, she was keeping it down because it was thicker but then eventually she started getting really constipated on it. I asked my HV if i should try and put her onto Aptamil for constipation and colic and she said that a lot of mothers didn't like it and to try Cow and gate comfort milk. So i've switched her onto that now and this doesnt suit her either. It's helped her poo but shes being sick on it loads and is crying a lot. I really don't know what the problem is.. Reflux? Milk intolerance? I just dont know.

Does anybody have ANY advice? Anyone else ever had this problem?

I'm inclined to think it's reflux of some sort if she was throwing up large amounts several times per day and feeding a lot. Babies with reflux often feed for pain relief but it's temporary and exacerbates the problem when they throw up again.

Have you been to see a doctor? How long ago did you stop BF? With the right meds your LO could well settle down and you could try nursing again which would help a lot, too. They digest it so much faster that there's less to throw up.

Sorry you haven't had better advice and support x

I would go back to the formula that helped with the spit up and give extra water a couple of times a day to help with constipation. Or some juice. Either wouldn't hurt.

It's been too long since I gave up breast feeding now, I wouldn't be able to get milk again, it's long gone! My doctors are crap to be honest. I've told them about it several times and several times they tell me she's just a sicky baby, I'm so fed up of it. I'm considering paying for a paediatrician.

You could have written this for me... This is exactly what were going through.

Our doc prescribed her Infant Gaviscon but it isn't helping either. She will still throw up after every feed.
I bf for 4 weeks and it was much worse.

We're currently on aptimal breastmilk substitute but again still sicking up... Not as much as real thing but definitely enough to upset her. We have some aptimal colic and constipation but I've yet to try it.

We also changed Emmys teats to vari flow ones... Too early to say if they're working yet.

Emmy hasn't gained weight in 2 weeks... So if she hasn't by next Tuesday they're going to refer to a specialist. It's frustrating!

I'm going to start Emmy on the colic and constipation one tonight will give you an update if it helps

Maybe try SMA Staydown?

Aww Hun, I'm sorry to hear that you and your LO are going through the same. It's horrible isn't it. Apart from being sick she's a fairly happy girl. She's also gaining weight very rapidly which I'm a little confused about, because surely if it was reflux she'd be finding it hard to gain weight? We also can't lay her flat in her cot at night, she hates it and she doesn't settle but I know it's risky putting in pillows. Ahhh!

That certainly sounds like reflux (my 1st had it - he was also vomiting all my milk) and no, it's not normal (SO easy for doctors to say this b/c they don't have to deal with it). There are medications available - I would pay to see the pediatrician (there are also gastro-pediatricians, not sure how you would access them in the UK though).

Google "tucker sling" and you can also put phone books to raise one side of the bed in the meantime!

And no, she doesn't have to be losing weight either, my son was always on the 100th percentile but he was overfeeding to deal with the throat pain. My 2nd does not have reflux and yes there is a HUGE difference!!! Trust your instinct, yours is probably reflux.

You may have to have her on hypoallergenic. Don't know what country you are in but here were have Similac Alimentum, Enfamil Nutramigen that are completely hypoallergenic.

good luck!

I would say to try a hypoallergenic formula if the staydown doesn't work as a lot of babies with reflux have a hard time digesting cows milk. This was the case with my 2 reflux babies.
