Hi ladies!

Over the past year or so I've been trying to decrease my family's intake of sugar and processed foods. We're doing very well - we tend to eat very well during the week, but relax things at the weekend.

I know there are a reasonable lot of mummies on her who keep sugar to a minimum, so I'm looking for some recipes for weekend treats that have less sugar. I've been trying some recipes from a book which uses vegetables instead of butter (chocolate cake made with butternut squash - who would have thought that would actually work!), but they still seem quite high in sugar. Is it possible to bake buns / cakes for the family which are healthier / lower in sugar? :flower:

This recipe for banana bread is fab, no added sugar just the sugars in the mashed bananas and sultanas and I use a lot less sultanas than it says, sometimes I sub in whatever dried fruit or nuts I have around.

I'd love to see some of the veggie in place of butter recipes if you don't mind sharing?

Just editing to say it might be from a baby blog but I love it too and so do all my family lol.

I've found that in most recipes, particularly ones that rely on fruit for sweetness, you can at least half the sugar content (or more) and it doesn't affect the recipe. For instance, I had a recipe for berry muffins that called for a cup of sugar. I just added 1/2 cup instead (probably could have added less than that). Obviously it's still got sugar in it, but it makes it a bit easier to just bake from normal recipes. Also, I have started to substitute agave nectar in place of sugar in some things. It's still sweet, but it's a lower GI food compared to sugar.
