Isabelle is 8 weeks old. She has no routine with her feeds at all. Sometimes she will takes two ounces every hour. Other times four ounces every three then noting for five hours then seven ounces then another ounces two hours later etc. It really is completely random. I have tried everything. I try playing with her, taking her for a walk, giving her a bath to keep her occupied so then she can have a feed every 4-5 hours but nothing works. Any advice? She never cries for feeds etc as she's a very content baby.

I would say that feeding every 4-5 hours is quite a long time between feeds, and 3-4 hours would be better. If she is not crying for feeds then maybe try a 3 hourly routine in the day and a 4 hourly one at night and see how she takes to it.

What makes you inclined to feed her hourly at some points in the day? Does she root and chew her hands? These are not always indicators of hunger and could be just her natural sucking reflex, so perhaps a dummy would help? xxx

I agree with PP, she might just want something to suck as opposed to eating. My LO eats every 2 hours like clockwork, 4-5 hours is a really long time to go without eating in the day.

Plus just wanted to say I'm jealous you have a content baby, mine is a little fusspot :)

ive tried a dummy she doesnt like them and i dont really want her to have them. When she has hourly feeds its because she is showing me all the signs of being hungry so i make her a bottle then she will only take an ounce or 2. She often goes 4 to 5 hours between a feed out of choice then will want top up feeds after. She is also teething too. I mentioned it to the hv and she said she will feed when shes hungry at this age and a routine isnt neccessary. Lastnight sttn though!!

Aww haha i cant remember the last time i hear her cry!

Both of mine fed very frequently and were pretty much all over the place, my youngest (3 1/2 months) still feeds randomly, my eldest got into a routine with bottles once he was on to solids xx

Rhys fell into his own schedule around 3 months old though he still eats every 3ish hours throughout the day (occasionally 4 hours and almost never goes as long as 5 during the day). We still dream feed him before we go to bed and he generally wakes up around 4 for a feed

Thanks for the replies. Found out today Isabelle is lactose intolerant so the reason for her fussing may be due to the formula she is on. She has been slightly better today and yesterday feeding every four hours with the odd 2 ounces every now and then. Hopefully now she is on LF formula things will settle but i can't complain as she's an angel compared to many i see x

aww fingers crossed this will help :). charlie fell into his own routine at 4 months x

thanks. it didn't help, doctors believe she is also dairy intolerant(can't think of the correct word) so the LI Milk has bought all her symptoms back so going back onto wysoy milk until they refer us to a specialist. but she seems to have gotten into more of a routine now i just don't like the idea of her being on soya milk at such a young age. love the name Charlie btw!
