With DS1, at 40w+1, my mucus plug got bloody at 2am and he was here by 11am. This time around, DS2 had different intentions.
At my 36w appointment with my OB, she asked me to hold out another week, and I think at that point we both knew that I was going to be early with this guy. A couple days after the appointment, I started a bloody show. The bloody show went from Saturday - Tuesday. After talking with the on-call OB on Sunday, I sat at home on unofficial bed rest, doing what I could to keep DS2 in there.
At 37w (Wednesday), I woke up at 6am to warm water trickling around me. After taking a shower, I noticed I was still leaking. The on-call OB sent me to L&D to get checked. Got to the hospital and was only 1cm, 60% effaced, station -2... I knew that was super early labor, as I hadn't even been feeling contractions. I was sad, as I knew they'd induce me since my water had broken partially.
After talking with my OB, we agreed that induction was in our best interest. So I had an oxytocin drip for my labor to at least bring on the contractions and keep labor moving. For those who say the contractions are worse in induction - so far from the truth. Their frequency is rushed closer together, but the intensity didn't seem any different. The oxytocin drip started at around 9:45am, and by 12:40pm, I was pushing. We did this without any pain killers and no epidurals - just like last time! This time, I avoided the bed at all costs - lots of walking, bouncing on a birth ball (worked REALLY well at moving him down), walking some more, and then the "Oh good. I gotta poop." feeling of pushing. That first urge to push, I was standing up and fearing that the baby would just come crashing to the floor... oh and that there'd be no nurses or doctors, as it was just DH & I in the L&D room at that time. The second urge to push, I told DH to call the nurses and doctors again and stress that this kid isn't waiting and I really have to push. My L&D nurse rushed in to check me, and my OB rushed back from lunch.
Owen Po On (pronounced Boh-Ahn) was born at 12:47pm, measuring 5lb 10oz and 19.75". We're now home and adjusting to the cluster feeding craziness that newborns bring on.![Very Happy :D :D](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
