Just a quick update for now but Nolan Alexander made his way into the world on July 30, 2013 - 7 lbs 4 oz, 20 1/2 inches long. He has a full head of dark hair just like his daddy and I. At the moment his eyes are a dark green/grey. He really has all of his daddy's perfect features and we're so in love.
My water broke Tuesday morning at 2:15 am, I was sleeping and it woke me up. I wasn't 100% sure if it was my waters so I went to the bathroom and it still continued to leak for a while after and even when we arrived at the hospital. I had time to get ready and become presentable as I wasn't have anything worse than crampy contractions yet.
My husband was on duty that night, for the Navy, so my mom had to drive me in while we waited for him to arrive. We got to the hospital around 5 and daddy finally got here around 6:30. At first I was slow to dilate but the contractions always stayed 2-3 minutes apart and become unbearable. I received an epidural and it was like night and day. I was able to relax, hang out, and even try to sleep. It worked too well though and made me numb up to my neck, they put me on some oxygen. They had to turn it off for a little and keep it set to where I pushed a button if I needed it.
After I was feeling a little more normal sensation, but still not really feeling contractions, they checked me and I was 10 cm around 4. I had no idea and was still closing my eyes falling asleep. They said I could try to push now or wait for him to move down even further to make it easier, which I waited.
We started pushing a little after 5 PM and I didn't feel a thing, no pressure or nothing. They said I got really lucky as epidurals usually don't work that way and not to expect that at all another time. It did make it difficult to push because I had nothing to bear against but he was probably out within 16 pushes! There was no tearing on my perineum but I did tear a little on the side. I still haven't been that uncomfortable or in pain.
Honestly, Nolan has been such an angel to mommy throughout my pregnancy, labor, and delivery. It all went above and beyond what my expectations were. We've been working on breastfeeding and it is finally all coming along, slowly but surely. I'm determined to stick it out. My husband has been so patient and literally the best coach and partner I could ask for.
