This poll has my 2 current favourites and my husband's 2 favourites for choices... (ones that we didn't automatically veto anyway)

Other names are:

Ismail
Yousef
Yaseen
Majid
Zane

I'm curious about your opinions on all of them!
Amjad in particular I can't wrap my mind around, I don't like it... but I told my husband I'd consider it. It's a version of Majid meaning "most majid" which is "most glorious". He likes that his name, Ahmed is also a "most..." name and they start with the same letter like he does with our son Adam too.

I think Ali goes best with your other names - simple and sweet.

I also voted for Ali but I'm not familiar with the other names

I'm worried Ali is too feminine... and I'm annoyed I can't even pronounce it properly in Arabic! The first letter is a sort of back-of-the-throat A sound that I have trouble with.

If I just do a regular A sound, the flow sounds more like Ally (nickname for Alison) than aw-LI (like Prince Ali Ababwa). Do I really want to call my boy "Ally"?

Ameen means trustworthy and it's a name very close (and written in English like this, it's exactly the same) as the word Muslims use for "Amen" at the end of prayers. It's my favourite right now but husband prefers the other 3 choices.

I like Zane. I'm not sure any of the names really 'go' with your other 2 children's names though- they seem a complete different style? X

I don't know about the pronunciation but my friends son is Ali ( Alastair), it really suits him.

Nora and Adam are both Arabic names (nor/noor = light in Arabic, a unisex name, Nora/noora is the feminine version; Adam is the name of the first prophet/man same as Biblical tradition).

But my kids' names happen to be completely under the radar since they are also English names, and both old classic type names in English which is what is my style... There just doesn't exist a 2nd Arabic name that is equally English and old and classic at the same time! (This is the reason I was hoping for a girl lol) I'm starting to get used to the idea that this baby will have a name that will be more obviously Arabic OR one that isn't as obviously Arabic like Zane but that has a different "feel" for sure than Adam and Nora.

What about Zakaria? Zak is a very English sounding name and a great Muslim name? Also Ali was one of my choices too! x

I like the name Zakaria but for my husband it's an old not-stylish name to use for a baby so he doesn't want it... It's OK though, my best friend wants to use Zachary for her son if she has one so it's better not to have 2 Zaks. hehe

Its hard isnt it! I am between two names myself... My OH wont discuss as he thinks baby doesnt need a name yet as I am only 5 months, but with us being different cultures I think it would help to be partly on the same page, at least!

What about Isaac?

There's the Arabic equivalent Ishaq (iss-hawq). People would probably end up pronoucning the sh combination as a shhh sound rather than the two letters separated because naturally that's the proper way in English.

Other prophets with not-too-bad names are Ibrahim (Abraham), Dawood (David), Yacub (Jacob), Ismail (Ishmael), Yusef (Joseph), Musa (Moses), Issa (Jesus) which are all decent names imo too, like Ishaq (Isaac).

This has given me an idea though! I sort of had this inner desire to name my baby Jack, which is a completely unacceptable name for my husband, but Yacob with nickname Jack could be an idea!!! And if I spell it Yacob instead of Yacub (this one is actually closer to the real pronunciation but whatever) it will be more obvious as a version of Jacob and easier to remember spelling etc.

I will let the idea "simmer" lol Thanks for bringing that out hehe

joseph is my absolute favourite name in the world so joseph/yusef gets my vote!
