Not complaining but why have tax credits paid me so much?

Ok, bank balance yesterday was looking poor... checked it today and just over £500 extra was in there!

Very confused so just checked online banking and ive been paid working tax credits. Only thing is, I only worked under 16 hours so wasnt entitled to them.

Anyone know why ive been paid it?

Obviously a lovely suprise but dont wanna spend it in case its wrong and I need to pay it back

If your unsure then call them up. If they have paid you the right amount then they wont need to take it back, but if they have over paid you then you will end up having to pay it back.
I get a bit of tax credits and it hasnt changed once in the yr I have got them. Hopefully its all for you to spend lol!! xx

id call them. They wont take back what you are entitled to but you will have to pay back the anything you are not. best to ring before spending

No wasnt entitled to surestart but thinking about it, although I was only contracted to 16 hours I did work full time during Nov, Dec and Jan so would that be why ive been paid working tax credits?

Sparky call them ASAP, also write down the name of who you speak to and as much info about the phonecall as possible, that way if they tell you its ok and it later turns out it was a mistake then you have something to challenge them with.

If i were you i would move it straight into your savings account/ISA if you have it to start accuring as much interest as possible but dont touch it untill you have definatly mae sure its ok!

Well, ive called them and apparently its right.

It is because I worked so much overtime those last few months. Brilliant!
