LO is seven months tomorrow. His big brother was a star for starting solids, just right away *ooh nom nom* but this one... DH tried at 6 months but that was a hollering, spluttering disaster. We figured no rush so waited a bit longer. The last week, he's been eating 'snacks' so not meant as a replaced bottle yet, just mushy fruits or mushy savouries and then a reduced bottle. He seems totally cool with it...when you get it in his mouth.
He's not fussing and he's not refusing to open, he just sits there smiling and looking around. If you gently nudge his chin, you can put a spoon in his mouth he'll be like 'ah yes this is nice yes' but he doesn't spontaneously go ah. It just strikes me as odd for a child who will try and eat the ipad, his mother, the carpet etc.

Do you eat your meals at the same time as him? Eating is a social activity as well as a necessary one, and the skills needed to master it are learned by observation and experimentation.

Maybe the next time you have a meal you could put a little bit of whatever you're having on his tray. If he sees you eating it he may be interested in picking it up and trying it himself.

I agree with pp. I would put some soft finger foods on his tray and let him try it in his own time. There really isn't any rush though :)

It hadn't crossed my mind and I feel silly! Considering how independent ds1 has always been, I should have thought of this :dohh: thank you so much!

Hehe yes, if he will put everything else in his mouth, let him put food matter in his mouth too! He sounds like an independent chappy :)
