Hello ladies,

I plan to have my baby at city hospital in Notts, Im not originally from the East midlands and have never been to this hospital - anyone had their babies there? what was your experience?

I know it sounds daft but im worried about my aftercare, i dont want my baby took away from me but I want to get cleaned up and dressed after the birth so its vital my husband is with me afterwards. Will they make him leave? Also if I have an epidural can the three of us go straight yo the hospital hotel rather than be on the ward??

I had an awful experience 13 years ago when I had my son in Leeds, my partner at the time had to go straight home because I had my son at night (non visiting hours) they took my baby away from me to the nursery because I had an epidural that paralised me 12 hours AFTER the birth and I was left all night layed in my own blood since i couldnt get up to wash or change my pad. It was a nightmare I just wanted to get up, clean myself and take care of my baby

I had my last at QMC - it was NOT a fun or pleasant experience (the stuff from my birth is on here if you trawl hard enough) - left me with quite severe anxiety/trauma issues.

This time I'm going to City (fingers crossed). Although the parking and getting there is an utter pain in the arse there's no way on this planet I'd go back to QMC again ever. Trouble with Notts is both units get so busy they go through phases of closing to new admissions so nothing's guaranteed.

Heard much better things about City and the place is cleaner which is a start.

Friend was at City recently - straightforward birth and was out in three hours. The one thing that does happen a lot is the hotel part gets closed as staffing levels vary.

I had my son at city hospital 3 years ago and i'm having my daughter there in february as well. I can't complain at all about my experience there. I was checked on regularly and i had my mum and partner with me the whole time (was in labour there for 13 hours) they even brought my mum and partner cups of coffee and toast so they weren't hungry. My mum left as soon as my son was born but that was her choice as she wanted me and partner to have alone time with baby but my partner stayed with me til i left the hospital which was 8 and half hours later and never got asked once to leave, he was more than welcome there. My son was with me the whole time, no one ever took him away or asked me if they can take to the ward etc he was just with me constantly. I can't comment on the epidural as i had gas and air so was able to move about immediatly afterwards but i did have a lot of stitches so did struggle. The midwifes there though had me in the shower room so i could wash and everything within 30 minutes (they didn't help me wash just put a chair under the shower for me so i could sit and wash myself properly without straining myself etc) so that whole experience was perfect for me as i felt refreshed and so much better within half hour of giving birth and my partner stayed in the room with my son while i did so and there on-suites so i could shout through the door to check on them lol :haha:. I went to the patient hotel with son and partner but didn't want to stay so asked a couple of hours later if i could go which i did 8 hours after giving birth which was 8.45pm. They also helped me establish breast feeding before i left as well which was a huge help. My friend had her son at queens 3 and a half years ago and they gave her stitiches without waiting for the numbing to set in and she were absolutly screaming in agony while they stitched her up, a doctor came in to ask what was going on as she shouldn't be able to feel it! I was in full state panic when midwife told me i needed stitches after seeing my friends experience but luckily i couldn't feel anything like you shouldn't and the midwife spoke to me the whole and kept me at ease. That's why i've chosen city again as the experience was better for me than when i was at queens with my friend. I hope this helps

City is amazing, can't fault them. They were amazing with me and saved my sister and nieces life. Can't fault them
