Alfie nurse's to sleep on a night and for some of his naps depending if we're out in the car orm if he's in his stroller. I was wondering for those with LO's who nursed to sleep if this stopped once baby's were established on solids or was it something you had to avtively stop them doing?? I am not at all interested in letting him cry it out and am currently doing the no cry sleep solution, using the gentle removal technique but just interested to see if anyone's LO's outgrew it on their own?

I'm doing the no cry sleep solution too :happydance: But i'm not too bothered she only nurses to sleep i think she'll grow out of it and fall asleep on her own! I used to be worried that i'd always be doing it but its quite a nice thing to do i think. She gets fed and bedtime and after breakfast and lunch and she is great...i'm not planning on disrupting that any time soon! I think (IMO) that if you can cope with feeding your LO to sleep and you're not going back to work soon then its not a problem :) But then thats not really answering your question is it sorry!

No thats fine hun. I don't mind him nursing to sleep i'm just curious as to how it'll work once he's on solids for his naps!!! Not goin back to worktil Jan thank god so he'll be 13 months then :happydance: I'm guessin he'll grow out of it but he makes such a fuss when i take him off i just can't imagine it lol

I nurse my son to sleep for his naps and bedtime. I'm not bothered about it at all. It's much easier than rocking etc. them to sleep. My sister has to lie down with her LO until he sleeps and that can take up to one hour. I just give mine a boobie and he is knocked out in 7minutes flat.
Here is an article you might want to read about breastfeeding to sleep...

thanks for this, kellymom is like my bible can't believe i hadn't spotted this on ther!!!

Hebe has just out grown it. I didnt stop it - it just happened. :)

She's slowly starting to fall asleep on her own, but if she didn't I wouldn't be bothered. To me it's natural x

I nursed my first son to sleep until he started refusing that feed. He did it on his own and it was a nice easy transition.

It's a lovely feeling the first time they cuddle into you and fall asleep without your boobie. Like they know they're safe :cloud9: I can't explain it, but for me atleast, it was a lovely moment :cloud9:

Jack has only just started falling asleep by him self in the evenings x during te day i still nurse to sleep if he has a nap x

Her sleeping never changed when she moved onto 3 meals, she still wants nursed to sleep just doesnt take so long to feed :) Normally about 10-15mins max now :)

Same for us. Brenn nursed to sleep for naps. At night we lay down he will nurse the pull off, he tosses and turns and falls asleep on his own.

Poppy still nurses to sleep, or goes off in the pram/car. It is pretty rare that she'll just nod off while sat on my knee, but it has been known! It doesn't bother me although it does worry me about going back to work, even though she'll be 13 months by then too.

Darwin is on two solid meals per day now, and still wants to be nursed to sleep for naps most days. What usually happens is once he's full he'll get fussy, then start to cry if I take too long to realize he's saying he's tired and wants to nurse. Because he's already full he usually only has a little drink and then nods off - it's the comfort he's after, I'm sure, not really the milk.

At night he's hard to settle (he's teething), but eventually I can usually get him to sleep by nursing him. Even if he's emptied both sides, he'll hang on for comfort and if I leave him latched on and stroke his head, he falls asleep and I can pull him off gently. Then I usually have to hold him for a while until he goes completely limp, or he'll wake up when he's put down on the bed.

I agree that nursing to sleep feels natural, and I love doing it as it relaxes me too and I can see how safe and loved it makes him feel. I'm sure he'll outgrow it himself but if not, I'm honestly happy to continue for quite a while (even if it's just that one feed each day when he's over a year old).

Oliver has always nursed to sleep, but he is now growing out of it on his own. I can put him down awake now and he will nod off on his own.
