My dd has now been prescribed Nutramigen milk which I will get tomorrow as chemist has to order in. She currently has SMa comfort and has 4oz every 3-4hrs which is way over her recommended amount as she not 7lb yet and is 5weeks old. How much do U think I should offer of the new milk. She drinks so much at moment cuz she has constant diarrohee

I had this EXACT same problem with my little guy
He is now 6 months and has been on Nutramigen since one month

Before he was on regular formula and drank way way too much - and then would have diarhea like 8-10X per day

the nutramigen worked miracles! - he stopped pooping every two hours and also stopped being fussy and miserable

You should be feeding 2-2.5 ounces of formula per pound of body weight per day

Thanks yep at moment she having around 15 dirty nappies a day and I have been back and forth to the Drs for the last 4wks and they have finally done something really hoping this will work. So she should be having around 14-18oz a day so divided into 6 bottles about 3oz per bottle. So shall I make that then from first feed I give her or shall I make 4oz? Sorry lol

My little boy has been on nutramigen since 8 weeks old as he was pooping all the time, crying etc. He was taking nearly 8oz of his previous milk so I started based on the age recommendation of 6oz every three hours and it suits him fine! Now much happier and poops once a day (though they do turn very green and smelly but you will get used to it).

It does say on the tin how much to give as a guide based on weight/age.

A newborn weighing 7 lbs. will take an average of 14-21 ounces of formula in a day

so depending on how many feeds you do per day - I think you should be around 3 oz each. mine took more like 4oz even on nutramigen. he was doing about 6-7 feeds per day.

nutramigen stinks, is expensive and hard to mix - but the benefits (for us) totally outweighed these few negatives.

and it worked quick - we started in the morning and by that evening his poop was already better and he was much calmer

good luck
let us know how it goes

can't wait to get it after lunch. This morning she is very missirable and already filled 3 nappies in an hour :-(

I tried my lg on Nutramigen and hated it, still had symptoms etc. As soon as she swapped to Neocate she was a different baby! x

Well she was taking 4oz yesterday but today that's a bit too much and some was coming bk the last feed she had she only drank 3oz but was happy and seemed happy and content. She is still pooing quite a bit but not watery and doesn't smell to bad. Hv came round yesterday and weighed her she now weighs 6lb 12oz but has dropped down to 0.4th so got to get her weighed next week. She seems to like the milk but it does smell like instant mash potato lol

M first was on nutramagin and so is this little one. Both my girls have a cow milk protein allergy. it changed them immediately. If she is spitting up 4 oz try giving 3, if she is still hungry give a little more, but I would start with the 3 oz.

wish our lo would have taken nutramigen, neocate, pepti junior or any of the hypallergenic formulas!! refused on all of them whether we mixed in gradually to existing milk to tried a straight swap!!
recently switched to sma wysoy as he was on sma gold anyway and hes taken that thank god! seeing paedriatic dietician tomorrow so hoping to determine whether cows milk intolerant / lactose or what!

how did you all get your diagnosis' for your lo's? through gp or dietician? :) x
