2wks ago my now 7wk old girl was prescribed Nutramigen as she had a terrible rash, bad colic and upset tummy on cow and gate. The rash has cleared up and all going well up until last thursday.
She is so windy (both ends) and you cant wind her like before.
She is very phlegmy sounding and croaky. Hates lying flat, screams in her carrycot on buggy, towels under cot mattress.
Sick all day,not just after a feed, even 3hrs after (she sleeps 11pm until 7am) but will be sick during that.
Sick either masses of clear water (?!) or lumpy, frothy, mucus milk.
The colic is bad again at night, she cries when she passes wind in her sleep, bringing her knees up.
Im at my wits end. HV is useless. Says see GP. GP just writes a prescription.
What does it sound like? Milk? Reflux? Please!! x

My daughter couldn't handle that formula either - it was awful. We finally switched to Neocate and then EleCare to finally find relief. It might be time to try an amino acid based formula.

My daughter got very sick after drinking that milk... her dr put her on Enfamil AR. which she has reflux ( a very bad case) And she isnt handling that very well... We have changed her formula 4 times now....
It sounds like your LO might have a case of reflux.

Well.. we had our 6 week check (more like 7) today and I mentioned the milk to the Doctor.
She was a different Doctor to the one who prescribed the Nutramigen - quite a bit older.
She said in her opinion that Ella didn't need to be on the Nutramigen and she would say that there was just something in the Cow and Gate that she didn't like very much. Especially since the rash never caused pain but the sickness / wind with the Nutramigen is.
So... we left the surgery without a prescription and I phoned the HV for advice.
I asked if we try a 'comfort milk' and she said that only Cow and Gate (out of the question) and Aptimal (made by same people - same stuff rebranded and more £??) do these options so to give SMA staydown a try.
I then went off to buy the SMA but after visiting 4 chemists, 2 huge supermarkets could not find it anywhere!!!
I came home with the SMA hungry baby instead.
So far she has had 3 bottles, finished each one and I managed to get some HUGE burps out of her everytime. Especially after that first bottle. She also managed a 4hr sleep this afternoon which by her standards is very good - she usually wakes in pain after 20 minutes in the day.
This evening she has been her usual grouchy self - awake since 5pm, crying since 6.30pm and still going, but thats normal and she will settle soon. I know that is just the colic.
Fingers crossed the SMA does it - I now have 3 unopened Cow and Gate milks and 2 unopened Nutramigen!! yuck....
