Just wondering cos I have it un it's doing my head in! :growlmad:

I'm starting on the Metformin and when I hopefully get a BFP I'll start taking low dose aspirin.

Have any of you PCOS-ers tried that combination?

hi pickleton..i have it & i have not been given anything for it.

Hi DMS,

I've been given Metformin as it can help you ovulate each month and reduce some of the symptom. I'm back on it now cos it's supposed to help lower the chances of MC... we'll see?!

hi, i have pcos and its a nightmare!!! i had ovarian drilling in july as i was not oving at all, i then ov and concieved, as you can imagine we were over the moon after years of trying then a few days later i mc, i know it was early but it still hurt all the same. i didnt ov the next 2 cycles and thought id missed my chance.

i then started on met and vit d and ov about day 15:happydance: i am now 10dpo but getting neg hpts so dont think its my month, but finally feel we have a chance in the future.i have also been takin asprin at the beggining of my cycle but i stopped it at ov, someone told me to do this i cant remember why

Hi, I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2008. I was then put on Clomid, and conceived but miscarried at 8 weeks in June 2009.
Havng a MC is the most heart-wrenching thing, and especially when it happens so early and people are unaware that you were pregnant...
I started on Metformin 500mg around Dec last year, and in March, whilst in the GP office for a suspected UTI, a pregnancy test confirmed I was pregnant. Now due in about 3 weeks, I can only encourage you to keep trying.
My pregnancy has been so perfect; no morning sickness, minimal weight gain (I've gone from 67.5 at my 12 weeks booking to 69.3 at my 34 weeks!), and am booked in to give birth in a mother and baby unit as my pregnancy is considered low-risk. For me, perseverance, determination and prayers did it, but be open to, and research your option.
Wishing you luck in conceiving...

thank you so much hb1 & jaden ma. You guys give me hope. If you dont mind me asking what did you do or take to make your bfp a sticky one? After 2 mcs im desperate!

I was just on Met for my pcos.

When I ttc my first I had gone to the gp and advised them - given that I had pcos I thought that was wise - they took me off met then as it isn't licensed for pg - I did get pg but then mc at 7-8 weeks. I insisted on seeing gynae at hospital after my mc and he advised to go back on met and stay on till 16 weeks should I get pg.

I got my bfp and stayed on Met ( 850 mg twice daily ) till 16 weeks - going down to a half dose for 2 weeks after that. I also took baby aspirin - without discussing with my mw - as when I mc and had my scan at epu there were lots of blood clots in my womb - can't advise to do this tho - I have no clue if it helped and I didn't discuss it with my mw - I felt that they would advise against it as they did no testing to confirm the reason for my mc and so no reason to advise trying it. I am now taking it every other day for 4 for weeks when I think I will stop taking it.

When ttc, as well as taking met, I tried to keep to low GI, took prenatals ( as did oh - his and hers preconception vits ), we both took MACA, used the sperm meets egg plan and cbfm and softcups. I was going to start taking royal jelly the next cycle as that's meant to help to mature stronger eggs - but I got my bfp.

Still very scared - after a mc you always will be I think - but my little Oliver is due on Jan 13th and I am on :cloud9:

Good luck ladies - I know the odds are scarier for us but it is possible - of the ladies who had pcos and mc around the same time as me a lot of us are quite far through our pregnancies.

So good to read this, and all the other posts from you all!

Least I know I'm not alone with PCOS!

I'm following a low GI diet and exercise regularly. Until I started ttc I thought I had PCOS under control as I lost weight and my symptoms reduced.

It's only now after MC's that I know I still have some PCOS trouble. So maybe the Metformin might help with a sticky bean next time. I'm happy to try aspirin as I suffered from hematomas in my last pregnancy.

xx :hugs:

i have had two pregnancies which sadly both ended in mcs around 6, 8 weeks. i have not been to the gp since i was told there is no need to by the EPU people. how did you guys get metmorfin? did you ask your GP or did your gp give you without asking? i dont know whether i should go to my gp to ask for it or not. also, what actually does metmorfin treat in pcosers? did you guys get any blood tests before being given the med?? so sorry for asking too many questions.... =(

I was on Met for years prior to ttc - my GP prescribed it when I was diagnosed with PCOS.

I've got PCOS too. They prescribed Metformin to control blood sugar levels; weight loss; and progesterone support in the first few weeks of pregnancy. The Metformin is supposed to lower miscarriage levels to the same found in the general population, which is a hopeful statistic. I think PCOS must be really common, both my sister and my sister-in-law were also diagnosed with it when they had trouble TTC. Each now has 2 children, if that's any comfort. Good luck! :)

I saw a specialist 5 years ago and she put me on metformin. But your gp should be able to prescribe it. I'm taking my first tablet tonight after almost 3 years of not taking it...not looking forward to the dodgy tummy trouble it gives me in the first few weeks lol. But i'll do almost anything now if it helps make a sticky bean. X lol.

wow there is some great stories on here.

i too have PCOS, had it for years, I am now on Metformin which was prescribed by my FS.
Also undergoing other treatments, had my HSG and am waiting on a Lap & Dye.

FX'd.

also, what actually does metmorfin treat in pcosers? did you guys get any blood tests before being given the med?? so sorry for asking too many questions.... =(

I was wondering this as well. Just diagnosed with PCOS today and feeling quite down about it.

I had an early mc in April and think PCOS must have been it. I am not put on any meds yet until he completes all of the tests next month, so in the meantime, what can I do to prevent MC? If I get pregnant, that is. I'm in the 2ww now.

I'm taking B-Vit, baby aspirin and pre-natal. Should I take progerstone cream even though I haven't been diagnosed with a progesterone deficiency? Is low progesterone common with PCOS?

Sorry for so many questions...this is all so new and scary to me.

:hugs: to everyone, sorry for your losses.

I have it as well, but it seemed to take forever to diagnosis d/t not looking like the "typical" PCOS gal. I am getting an hsg done soon and if that doesn't work, I'll start Clomid. I had an hsg done in March and got pregnant the next week, sadly I had a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks (baby measured 6 weeks). I don't take anything regularly right now though.

I'm taking B-Vit, baby aspirin and pre-natal.

Did the doc say you should take low dose aspirin and if so all the time or just when you get a BFP? I'm wanting to take it but i'm not sure if I should take it all the time or after ovulation or just when I get a BFP! Anyone know?

Hi,
I am new to this forum. I was diagnosed when I was 26 with PCOS. I am now 39 and currently TTC. I just went off the BCP in the end of December. We were told by our doctor to just go ahead and try to conceive naturally and if it doesn't happen within a year then come back to them and they will then go over other options. I have finally dropped about 3 dress sizes. And in the beginning I was on Metformin and the BCP and thyroid medication. I have been taken off the Metformin a few years back because it was affecting my liver. I am hoping that with the weight loss and trying to maintain my thyroid that I will be able to conceive. If anyone has any good advice for me let me know. This looks like a great sight and I am happy to find a whole bunch of women with PCOS and going through the same thing as me.

hi jojo, i hope you get your BFP very soon, i have a friend on here who has pcos and was trying for 5 years and got her BFP last week, its so nice to see success stories, i hope you manage to add to them very soon, GL with ttc :flower:

Hello ladies,

I'm 30 yrs old and I also have PCOS. I've had it for about 8 years. i've been on Metformin on and off and everytime i start it, i've gotten pregnant. I'm recently just started metformin again and just started pregesterone pills yesterday in hopes to bring on AF. Then my doc has put me on clomid. I've had many losses but giving it one last try.

good luck to all.
