Anyone else on anti anxiety or mood stabilizing medications? I'm worried about my baby. I'm on 25-50 mg seroquel.

Hi I'm on escitalopram 10mg a day for anxiety my doctor said seroquel was quite safe and your on quite a small dose I was advised if my anxiety got a bad I could also take 25mg a day of seroquel and with the dose being so low it's safe. Apparently a lot of pregnant women they treated were put in it and babies were fine x

I was on 20mg of fluoxetine for post tramatic stress when I found out I was pregnant with this baby. I went straight to my doctor and told her I didn't want to continue taking my meds (had a friend who had a mc and she was told it was most likely due to her anti depressant tablets). She said because it was such a low dose I could come straight off them. Yes I've been irritable and miserable but I'd prefer to be a moany cow than risk this pregnancy x

Yeah, I understand both sides. But I suffered from post partum anxiety to the point that I ended up in patient for 5 days in the psychiatric hospital because I hadn't slept in 3 days. I had to stop breast feeding when my son was 3 months old :( I have always been against medications and try to do natural things. I feel bad. :(

Ohh don't feel bad hun :hugs: your health and wellbeing is just as important x

You know, if your want a second opinion, you could always call a pharmacy and ask the pharmasist. They are the experts on drugs and are a good reference for any medication related question. From my experience, most Pharmasists are always more that willing to answer any question you have about the meds and it's safety.... good luck!

25-50 is an incredibly low dose. I came off mine when I was pregnant with my first baby (and haven't been back on those since) but I was on 300mg+ a day. If your doctor is still happy to prescribe it then I would not worry too much about such a low dosage :) x

I'm on .25 on kolonopin and trying to ween off within the week. I just turned 4 weeks pregnant. I am scared but I have faith everything will be ok. Has anyone else had this experience. I try doing to do research and most posts say its such a low dose and that I shouldn't worry so much. Any advice?

Weaning gradually is a good idea. If you quit cold turkey, I'd be more worried about the baby. It's hard I know :(

I have done a lot of research on this. My findings are that very low doses don't yield any real links to birth defects. My sister in law was on Paxil her entire pregnancy and her son is fine. She was never even told of the risks being as though it contains anti-anxiety reducing properties. I hope your mind will be at ease as well. There has got to be plenty of women in this difficult situation.

I was on Seroquel with DD, up until I gave birth, 25mg as well. I only stopped because it knocked me on my butt and we all know that's not realistic with a baby. My psychiatrist and family doctor both agreed that it was safe during pregnancy, especially such a low dose.. and my DD is a healthy, happy 16 month old now :)

That's awesome! Thanks for sharing your positive experience. So, you no longer need it? I can't imagine sleeping without it now but I hate being dependent on it.

Nope, I don't need it anymore. Once DD was here, I was so exhausted that if I had the chance to snooze, I just did! I was also dependant on it, but now almost a year and a half later (with a toddler that sleeps 9:30pm-9:30am), I'm sleeping just fine :) I think we sort of relearn how to sleep on our own, newborns definitely help! I'd say stay on it until you give birth, there's no harm

Thanks hun :) I experimented last night and tried sleeping without seroquel. It's a big deal that I even fell asleep without it. I slept from midnight until 3 and woke up at 5 and 7 and then woke up at 9. My doctor told me to try to sleep without it a few nights a week to see if I can wean myself. I'm trying. I think being pregnant is helping because the hormones make me so tired. I woke up a million times throughout the night though and it wasn't good quality sleep :(

I am bipolar. Was taking lithium, celexa and xanax prior to pregnancy. When ttc I stopped taking all meds. Right after finding out, I was able to start taking medicine. I am on Celexa, trazadone and Latuda I was taking zyprexa until my sugars rose. Your mental health is important for baby as well. I am now 33 weeks. I have scans weekly due to problems UNRELATED to bipolar and medication. So far babs is perfect, heartrate, growth, etc!

I've been on Latuda since we found out. It's category B so it's pretty safe for the baby. I am concerned though because I have read that any antipsychotics can cause withdrawal symptoms to the baby after birth. So we'll see... I used to be on stronger stuff, like Lamictal but I decided to switch to something a little safer. I am needing something for anxiety though as my anxiety has been much worse since being pregnant. It's gotten bad enough that I'm worrying about how it could affect the baby.

Has anybody else experienced higher levels of anxiety since being pregnant? My psychiatrist said it may be due to the hormones.

My anxiety and OCD is increased in pregnancy. It's hard :(

Hi I was on quetiapine/seroquel slow release and a high dose of prozac during my first pregnancy. I was weaned from it in line with my due date in order to be able to breastfeed. I have a bright, happy, alert amazing ten month old =)
