One night accommodation for family - Northern England

In a few weeks time we will be going away on a self catering holiday with in laws, near Hexham in Northumberland. The holiday starts on a Saturday but we were thinking of travelling on the Friday and staying somewhere on the way for a night. Partly to break up the journey but mostly to extend our holiday time a bit (hubby has been working really hard) and have a little night just for us. We live near Manchester and it will be myself, hubby, 3 year old and baby.

Does anyone know of a suitable place between Manchester and Hexham? We don't mind a small detour. I doubt we'd find a self catering place for one night only, but if there's somewhere we could put DD in a separate room a bedtime (a hotel with a little adjoining room etc).
