I was pumping for our little girl while reading a book, and licked my fingertip to help turn a page. I thought I'd finished pumping and took the cups off, using that same finger to get some milk from inside the flange to rub onto my nipple (I have major chafing issues and people have recommended this to me). Then my breasts started leaking so I pumped again, forgetting that I'd touched the flange with my that finger. D'oh!

Do you think this vial of milk is compromised? I dont wash my boobs before pumping, so Im sure they are covered in shirt fuzz, sweat, etc., but this seemed different because it was saliva, which is known for being full of bacteria.

When I was expressing I was told to make sure my breasts were clean as standard before I started. I don't think you can be too careful with premature babies so I would get rid of that milk. Hygiene is incredibly important with these little ones.
