Panicked request from a friend of mine as I have no idea!

She opened a new tin of formula this morning and what with having new baby etc she forgot about it and its been open on the back in the kitchen all day.

Can she still use it?

If it was me I would probably scoop out about a 3rd and bin it incase anything dropped in. If she is really worried, I would bin it and buy new x

IMO, I wouldn't worry too much as the powder isn't sterile anyway. As long as she's making feeds up safely then there shouldn't be a problem. If she has pets that could have got up there and sneezed in it (!) then maybe bin it...!?

xx

Actually that's a very good point :dohh:

i wouldn't worry; as long as she makes up the feed with boiling water - that should kill anything suspect. unless there's a dead fly in it or something!

I agree with this :D

As long as she puts the powder into hot water above 70 degrees I would use it

Agreed. Unless something obviously dodgy has happened to it then the nasties will be killed if the water is hot enough anyway.

Having said that, if she's worried about it, it might be worth buying a new tin rather than worry every time she feeds her LO for the next few days!

I normally make up feeds with just warm water already in bottles but if that happened I would probably switch to hot water for the top layer from the tin just in case. Definitely wouldn't throw it away!
