we have 4 names that we are set on... We love REALLY bizarre names.. So I want brutal honest if you think one or multiple are too much!!! :) I personally love them, but I wanna know your thoughts! Like I said, I want honesty cuz I know sometimes I live in my own little awesome world!!! :p

Thatcher
Stryder
Marshall
Pilate (pronounce pilot) *pilate as in Pilate from the bible*

:) honesty away!!!

The only ones I don't mind are Thatcher and Marshall. But I wouldn't use them myself. I think the other two are a bit too out there for my taste.

Marshall is ok the rest are too far out there for me.

I think Marshall is the only name that's really usable, sorry.

Strydor reminds me of [a] stridor - the name of a respiratory condition. I think Pilate will be misread for Pilates and Thatcher doesn't seem like a name to me.

I think Marshall is great!

Thatcher seems odd to me and doesn't seem like a name

Stryder is actually pretty cool I think, and along the same lines as Ryder. Another option is Stryker which seems awesome

Pilot is awesome but spelled like Pilate looks like Pilates, which changes the pronunciation and I don't like that as a name.

Thatcher is okay, Stryder is alright I guess. Wouldn't use either of them though. Marshall sounds a bit dated IMO and Pilate I dislike. I'd spell it Pilot though if you do use it; Pilate from the Bible was a pretty messed up emperor who historians believe was very responsible for killing Jesus (I know the Bible says otherwise) so I'd look in to the history of it a bit before you use it, especially if you're Christian!

I think Marshall has potential to be cute. Thatcher reminds me of Grey's Anatomy so I do think of it as a 'real' name. It's not my style personally but I don't hate it.

I don't like Stryder or Pilate, I think Stryder sounds made up and I think Pilate opens the kid up to all sorts of teasing (and I think most people would pronounce it as Pilates).

I'm not a fan of any of those names - although I do like unique names. Sorry!

Thatcher & Marshall are not "REALLY bizarre" in my opinion. I think they are both well-known names, they just aren't commonly used. Marshall seems kind of nerdy to me.... and also makes me think of Eminem since it's his real name. Prefer Mitchell, nn. Mitch - similar - but Marshall doesn't really have good nickname options.

Pilate would ALWAYS be misspelled/mispronounced. If you like the name Pilot, I say just spell it Pilot. It's unique enough all on it's own. No reason to subject him to a spelling that he will always have to correct the pronunciation. The actor, Jason Lee, has a son named Pilot Inspektor.

Stryder I think is best of the 4 choices.... but I much prefer Ryder or even Stryker.

Marshall is the only one I would consider ok. Whilst you might love bizzare names your child may not. When he's in school etc he may not want a name that brings attention to him. He might but then he might not. I always try to keep the child's future in mind when picking names. Graduations job interviews weddings etc is he going to be cringing when his name is called ? I think people can get unusual unique names without sounding too silly. My 2 cents x

My vote goes for Thatcher. Not my type of name, but i like it xx

Thatcher is okay, Stryder is alright I guess. Wouldn't use either of them though. Marshall sounds a bit dated IMO and Pilate I dislike. I am a Christian which is why I like Pilate. When studying the bible in depth and Pilate in particular outside of scripture you find he did not in any way wish to send Christ to his death. Which is why he washed his hands of the matter because deep down he knew Christ was innocent, but knew He also had to be the ultimate sacrifice.. The TRUE depiction of a Christian and TRUE believer.. One who recognizes our own sins, and recognizes Christ's innocence and sacrifice for OUR sins. That is why I would prefer to spell it Pilate as it is spelled in the bible. I know it might get mispronounced, but I love the meaning behind it and I would hope he would embrace it's meaning.

We like Thatcher because it's an older name hat isn't used often. Also a name in one of our favorite movies.

Stryder is a play off of Rider. We like rider, it's just too commonly used. But stryder is ALSO the name of Viggo Mortenson in The Lord of the Rings haha hubby's favorite movie and my favorite character.

Marshall was a last minute idea. We were actually listening to eminem and it hit me. It's a really cool hardy boy name so I like that aspect.. However I just realized it's like the boy version of Marsha... No thank you!!!

Marshall was high on our boy name list. I think it's cute, but sort of geeky. Maybe this sounds shallow but I think you need to be a tougher kind of kid to pull it off.

I liked Thatcher, but OH did not, so it didn't make our list.

I'm not much of a fan of Strydor, it reminds me of stridor - a vibrating sound made when you have an airway obstruction.

I'm not a fan of Pilate, but if you like it and it has meaning for you then go for it!

On first glance they sound like a list of the Paw Patrol characters! Which is a children's cartoon about dogs in the UK. They have a Marshall and a Ryder lol

I couldn't use any of them as they are too way out for me, and sound quite American, I prefer traditional names, however I am drawn to Thatcher and if I was 'cooler' that's the kind of name I like. It's cute.

I agree that Strydor makes me think of the gasping noise you make when you can't breathe properly although that is spelled Stridor x

Thatcher to the British is just our right wing ex-prime minister but you could probably get away with that in the us. Marshall makes me think of eminem but that probably won't be relevant when he's older. The other two I'm not keen on. Just my personal opinion though.

I'm English and thatcher as a name automatically makes my mind refer to Margaret Thatcher (prime minister) who was a well respected but equally massively hated leader. If you're in America then I think it sounds fine as a name but if you're in England no way else it would stand out as odd to many.

Children are excellent at twisting names and creating micky taking and cruelty with things you both would and wouldn't even think of. For that reason pilate would not only set your child up for a lifetime of their name being said wrong but also lead to jibes about yoga and so forth and I hate to sound mean but they would probably tease the child saying his mum couldn't spell. (I say this as someone with a maiden name which was always spelt and said wrong and as someone who nearly set their firstborn up with an incorrect spelling on birth certificate as I was nervous!)

Stryder is unusual...In England I think it would raise many an eyebrow but I don't know where you are so perhaps it would fit ok?

Marshall I think is lovely. Unusual but not in a strange way

I am from the U.S. so the British stuff shouldn't be an issue:) I like Marshall.. But I don't like that it sounds like Marsha... I know everyone is against Pilate but I think that's my favorite honestly. I love the meaning, and I want my son to be above jokes.. And be able to laugh with them. That's what I desire for all my kids really. I was always made fun of cuz my last name was Hoegh.. Everyone called me hoe!! But I didn't let it get to me. And my son shouldn't either:)

Marshall is a really nice name! I agree with a previous poster that it has that geekiness to it, but that's not a bad thing at all! Thatcher reminds me of other names that are last names making it as first names which is a trend I really don't dislike. Especially for boys (I'm not the biggest fan of last names as first names for girls, like Madison, Makenzie, Delaney)

I echo most of the other people who replied about the other two names, which I can't completely wrap my head around. When the person is born and coming into his own, he can start to make the name be whatever he is though, and it could easily change my mind.
