Mia eats everything under the sun!!! And we want to keep expanding food world. Our family eats A LOT!! Of shrimp and oyster stew. I know it says a year old but i'm wondering if anyone introduced any earlier? We have no sea food allergies in our family. Even my niece who is egg, peanut, and dairy free can have shell fish.

I've also seen different opinions on a year old or two years old what have you heard?

I'm sorry for being a baby it just rocks being able to just share dinner with her except it's a pain in the butt on the nights we have shell fish for dinner. And she is getting to the age where she can tell mommy daddy grandma and papa are eating something different than her.

DS tried shellfish (my memory is terrible but I'd guess around 10mths). He didn't like it but he had no allergies. He eats fish a bit now but still not keen on shellfish really.

I also used Thai red curry paste in a soup for him from about 8/9mths - the curry paste contains shrimp paste (I didn't read the ingredients) and also used coconut milk in the same recipe which I later learned wasn't consistent with guidelines for introducing nuts. Ooops :dohh:

It's just the same as introducing any foods I think, small doses and keep an eye out for a reaction.

I will introduce shellfish after a year (or thereabouts) I think. I'm not worried about allergies, but I don't trust it as far as food poisoning goes, although I eat it myself quite happily and *touch wood* have never got sick! I guess if you aren't worried about allergies then it's just personal preference! I would feed LO prawns however and crab. He's also had a teeny bit of smoked salmon (salt content) and I'd have no problem giving him octopus or squid.

In the UK, guidelines say that babies can be given shellfish from 6 months unless there's a family history of allergy. You just need to make sure it's cooked (I think that's until a year, same as with eggs). If you're worried, introduce it slowly and without other new foods but I've never worried.

Thank you ladies we gave her clam chowder she loved it and had no issues.

I waited til a year because of the potential choking/allergen risk.

Then again I gave him peanut butter from 6 months...
