Hi ladies,

I have been ttc for 8 years and have just waited a year to begin IUI. My first cycle was cancelled due to understimulation. They upped the meds to 225iu Gonal F (3 x) and Clomid (for 5 days).

It's CD10 today but the uterine lining is very thin and there are no follicles at all.

In addition to that, the FS found a 'massive' cyst. She said it was very, very big and if it doesn't burst then it will have to be removed.

I think the Clomid caused the cyst as I've never experienced anything like this before.

I'm really worried about what it will feel like when the cyst bursts (because it's so big) and what to expect. If anyone has been through a similar situation, I'd really appreciate your support and advice :(

Hi hun, i hav had a cyst from clomid but it wasnt massive that it would need removing, mine burst on its own and i did not feel it.
I hope someone who as had a very big cyst can help you- did they tell you how big it was? From what I remember I think mine was either 3/4cm it was a while a go.
Try not to worry yourself too much hopefully it will burst on its own xx

Thanks hun... I am glad yours dissapeared by itself. Did you feel yours? I can feel a dull aching a bit like OV cramps.

She didn't say how big it was and I didn't think to ask at the time but she said it was very, very big. It looked slightly bigger than my palm when I was looking at the TV screen.

I might pop the the GP tomorrow to ask.

They zoom in, it will likely not be as big as your palm ;)

Usually cysts over 5cm require removal, most cysts howevere will resolve on their own at your next period or ovulation as it's hormones that drive them, chane the hormones and the cyst ruptures. As your cyst is 99% likely from the meds they'll wait for it to go on its own and give you a cycle or so more before considering surgery i expect.

When a cyst ruptures it can feel like sharp O pains, but in my case longer lasting for a day or two. Sometimes it's a sharp pain lasting only minutes but sometimes they sort of haemorrage and give you a longer pain....mine was on my right ovary and felt like apendicitus.

Try not to worry, now they know you have had a cyst they will likely amend your meds for next cycle, unfortunately all this ART is trial and error.

If it's really worrying you call your clinic nurse and ask for the size, it will have been recorded on your notes.

It all depends on what kind of cyst it is some just shrink some can rupture and the kind I had endometrioma (blood filled ) bleed I ad one rupture/bleed last year it was 12 cm and was hospitalised but they only come with severe endometriosis so by the sound of it th cyst may be from the clomid they really should of told you the size and sent you to get checked out they can usually tell what type of cyst it is by the ultrasound.
Try not to worrie too much I had my last cyst for 7months just had it removed on Friday.
If you feel any pain then go to A&E (ER)
:hugs: hope they sort things out so you can Carr on :hugs:

Ladies I can't thank you enough for your responses. They have been incredibly helpful. Thank you again. I feel much less worried now. I have a GP appt. tomorrow so will ask more Q there but hopefully it will go by itself during the next bleed :hugs:

Sorry, I havent been through a rupturing cyst, but wanted to wish you the best of luck :)

Hi - I had a cyst on my ovary (not caused by any meds) It was a size of a satsuma when they removed it but unfortunatley i ignored mine and ended up having to have my right fallopian tube removed as it was twisted!!! Not to scare you and i hope you have got it all sorted now but if you are worried don't leave it!!!!!!

Hope this hasn't worried you

This is my 2nd month of clomid 100mg and 2nd time ive gotten a cyst both 4cm....most painful thing ive experienced..dr gave me pain meds until it goes away.....

Next month he wants to try femara (sp)..

Hi ladies,

Imaan I hope yours does disappear on its own. Hopefully painlessly too. I kinda know how you feel. I just found out i have a 9 cm ovarian dermoid cyst- they never disappear....but i'm just waiting for a 2nd opinion. There is a chance that they would remove my ovary too with surgery. I'm thinking about leaving mine for now as i don't like that risk or the risk of any scarring due to surgery. i'm NTNP at the moment (had mc over xmas). Still ttc no1. If i'm not pregnant after another year i may consider getting it done. The sonographer says they are sooooo very common. And said that my 9cm cyst was not big!!!!!! Although its hard try not to worry. Our bodies are good at sorting themselves sometimes. FX for you and ask your doc for lots of info. x

Hi Ladies, I also had a cyst -8cm from clomid. I was getting severe pain and wanted to pee all the time. If I was constipated- I was in excruciating pain. They stopped me taking clomid and said to wait for 2 months. Went for another scan then and the cyst was gone. Good luck.

Ladies thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

Donna that is really worrying! was your cyst caused by fertility meds? when they detected it what did they advise? I am so sorry you had to have your follopian tube removed :(

Hi Hopeful11... I am sorry to hear you have been suffering with cysts too... bloody things! :grr: how long did it take the cyst to go away? my nurse said mine might go away during my next bleed.

Thanks so much hun. Oh my :( 9cm sounds huge! what causes dermoid cysts? are you getting any pain? I hope you won't have to have your ovary removed!!! Hopefully it will clear by itself and then you can carrying on without any more hitches. :hugs:

Miss hope... I'm glad your cyst has now dissapeared. Did they offer another alternative to Clomid?

I went to see my GP last week but she was absolutely useless... she said to wait it out and just wait till the hospital scan me after my period (in about 3 weeks from now). I am feeling a little sick and dizzy now and then.. I have no idea if it's because of the cyst. I am also feeling a dull aching prodding on my lower left side, which extends down into my groin.... it's not constant but comes and goes

Hi Imaan,
Sorry you didn't get help from your GP. Unfortunately for me they said my next option is IVF as clomid is too risky to try again and it hasn't worked ( took it for 6 cycles ). I have to fund the treatment myself as I already have a 9 year old. The pain you have been getting its possible its from the cyst. They also did blood tests to make sure the cyst wasn't cancerous.
Good luck.

Oh dear... could they not try you on Femera? (not sure if I've spelt it right). The first time I had IUI many years ago, I did 7 days of injections (Puregon) and had 3 big follicles... I didn't have to use Clomid at all. Not sure why they didn't just do that.

I am a bit worried that they won't be able to stimulate enough eggs when I go for IVF. I went for a private consultation on the weekend and she said I could have POCS because my AMH is 36.35... she said that's very rare to see. This has really worried me now as when they did the baseline scan I had no cysts and have never had this aching before. We are also going for IVF privately but can only manage to scrape the money together to do one cycle. She said I need to wait till the cyst has gone and then they will do an antra-follicle count.

I hope this cyst goes by itself soon and is not harmful... it's one worry after another on this ttc road!

All the best with your journey hun :hugs:

Hi Imaan,
I hope you are feeling much better. The cyst will hopefully burst on its own or go down. Fingers x. I had my appointment on Wednesday and I was told I need to go for IVF. I had a scan and I have a subserosal fibroid. They were not sure whether I had a polyp as well and was told if am ready for IVF they might have to do a Hysterescopy. I am so depressed - ivf is so expensive and we can just about scrape the money together. Am trying to find a clinic with reasonable costs but unfortunately being in London it seems there all so expensive. I also need to lose weight as my BMI is 31.5 - put on weight with clomid and comfort eating :(
I hope we have some luck my dear and get BFP's.
Baby dust to you.

I had a 9cm cyst a few years ago, was quite painful. I had to walk really slowly cos there was a risk of rupture. some said it will go down on its own, others suggested removing it. for unrelated reasons it took me 2-3 months to get ready for this surgery but when they did the scan they could not find the cyst anymore :)

Wow what an amazing story. Thank you for sharing it. 9cm is very big. You must have been so relieved when it had disappeared 'at the right time',

I just got diagnosed with pcos, I have been ttc for 6 months. My cycles have always been in between 24-28 days with my periods being 2-4 days long. This is my first cycle with me being past the 28 days, I'm on day 36 of my cycle. I did take a test which obv. came out negative :(

Does anyone on here have pcos that would be kind enough to give me some advice on dealing with this?

Hi hun,

I haven't been diagnosed with pocs... but I suspect I have it. The cyst I have now is caused by the Clomid. I think there is a thread for ladies with pocs so hopefully they will be able to offer more advice :hugs:
