Ovulation but no BBT rise? How?

Hey guys!

I'm 99% sure I ovulated 5 days ago based on a pre-O BBT dip and a bunch of distinct symptoms (including very faint traces of spotting from when the follicle ruptured). I just KNOW I ovulated... I could feel it.

But after spiking the next day, BBT fell again and has been up and down (as if nothing happened) ever since. :(

Has anyone ever ovulated and not seen a consistent BBT rise, or know what could cause this?

I know the rise is the only thing that officially confirms ovulation so in a way this question doesn't make sense, but I swear, I know an egg was released - I just know it! Lol

Since you have PCOS I highly recommend OPK....it'll tell you for sure when your surge happens....yes your temp can go up and down after a confirmed shift....

OPKs aren't recommended for women with PCOS. Because women with PCOS have an increased amount of LH in their system, an OPK will often pick up this creating a positive test often when you're not ovulating. If you look at the instructions for OPKs it says that they are unreliable for women with PCOS. For me, OPKs don't go positive even though I have PCOS and get a temp rise. Don't waste your money on OPKs unless you can get them very cheaply.

Could you upload your chart? It'd be interesting to have a look.
How reliably are you taking your temps? Is it always at the same time? Are you waking at all in the night? Extra or fewer blankets? Have you slept with your mouth open?
If you upload your chart then we can help you.

You might also like to see if you can find a copy of Taking Charge Of Your Fertility. It's full of the ins and outs of tracking O and detecting what might be going on.

Good luck.

Thanks so much for the input! I wanted to wait until after I took a test to reply, but I decided to hold off on testing so I figured I'd give you an update.

So exactly 1 week after I felt so sure that I ovulated (due to ovary twinges, faint spotting, headache, and 1-day BBT spike), I had faint spotting again - not normal for me - and started freaking out thinking it was implantation.

The very next day after that "implantation," my temps leveled out (when they had never been the same more than two days in a row before) but were/are still too low to suggest ovulation.

My theory is that I did ovulate, but it was weak ovulation so progesterone didn't rise like it should have.

So now I'm wondering if an immature egg can implant, or if I should just expect to get my period soon... It's sad, but I don't even want to take a test because I'm assuming it would just be a chemical pregnancy if it's positive. :(

I'll try to link my chart below.

you need the temp shift and sustained to indicate O. You can have all the symptoms and not O. The temp shift is the increase in Progesterone after you have released the egg.

Maybe you geared to O and didnt, then tried again.

Ok, it won't let me post pics here yet.

Yes, I know progesterone is what causes BBT to rise. Like I said, I think I might have had what's called "weak ovulation," where an immature egg is released, causing the corpus luteum not to produce the progesterone necessary to raise the temps.
