I'm booked for a section and am worrying about pain relief. I really struggle with medication, it takes very little to make me sick. I only ever have paracetamol and only ever two doses in 24hrs, any more and I'm sick. I'm just wondering if there were alternatives (extra strong paracetamol, ibuprofen, aspirin are all no goes). What am I likely to be given and what alternatives natural or otherwise can anyone suggest? Many thanks. Mitzee xxx

I was given liquid morphine and codeine for the first 4 days, then once discharged I was prescribed cocodamol for 6 weeks. No idea about any natural alternatives. I don't know if the hospital would prescribe any herbal/natural remedies.

Hi ur gonna need something strong for the pain, i was on morphine for 3 days. They did give me panodol aswel as morphine, also got offered tylex, but the best pain relief that didn make me drowsey or feel sick was a suppository. Its not the nicest but was great pain relief & lasted 24hrs!

Good luck & hope u b ok

I'm like you, I get nausea and vomiting with anything stronger than paracetamol. You will be prescribed some antiemetics for after the surgery, so ask to have some the same time as your pain relief. But you might not need any painkillers though. My first day I was sore, but was fine after that, and I had a vertical c section too, much more painful than a bikini line inscision. What helped was I got a pair of shape wear, that wasn't too firm but offered some support. Helps the first time you get up and feel like your insides are about to fall out. I'm a nurse, and we tell patients to do this, or roll up a towel and place it over the incision for some support when moving about.

I don't think the hospital will offer natural or herbal medication either, I was on liquid morphine for two days and after that I was on pain killers which I carried on taking.

I would take it as it comes and see how you feel, some people need more painkillers than others, so you might find that you don't need much. After that it was pretty much paracetamol so you may be ok
:)

Good luck

Thank you all - its really appreciated! Have taken all your points on board.

Must put a reminder in my notes to ask about the anti-sickness drugs.

Thanks again xxx
