Anyone else had or got this? It happens when I pick LO up particularly from his changing mat. It appeared a few days ago but it's getting worse :( It's silly, it's not that LO is that heavy. Think my technique must be wrong or something. Or maybe I've just been swinging him around too much! :haha:

Anyway the pain occurs near the area where the thumb joint meets the wrist. It's occurring in both wrists now.

It's REALLY difficult to get an appointment with my GP so if anyone has any tips to offer that'd be great.

Could be repetitive strain injury or carpal tunnel syndrome? Try not to do too much with your wrists/hands - difficult I know when you have a baby! A drs appointment is probably the best way forward when you can though x

This happened in my left wrist way back when I was about 15. I worked in a cinema and we had to clean these heavy rubber mats at the end of the night that were back behind the concessions. After picking those up again and again for a year it eventually gave me tendonitis and I had to get a special wrap for my wrist with a splint.

Not saying this is what you have, but the repeated motions can cause this and eventually lead to carpal tunnel. Definitely make an appointment with your GP anyway and try to take it easy and lift with your whole arm rather than just your wrists for the time being.

I get this occasionally hun, especially after a weekend when i've had lo most of the time - dh plays sports - and i've been lifting lo a lot. Durin the week it's not too bad now as I'm back at work and he's at nursery. think tendonitis as suggested by the last post could be to blame. Wrist supports although not the most attractive thing in the world to wear could help?

could be tendonitis, carpel tunnel or just RSI. You really need to get it checked out by your GP. In the meantime unless your allergic take some ibuprofen as that will take any swelling away which should help ease the pain.

I've noticed this recently, my arm also feels "weak" and I'm SURE it's down to the way I carry the carseat when LO's in it...

:flower: Thanks all.

Went out and bought a wrist support - going to try it and see how it goes. It it helps the one hand then I'll get one for the other; if not, will head to the GP. I've also started being a lot more careful about how I pick him up.

And I won't be bouncing him in the air for a while!!

I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome on friday - GP basically put it down to lugging tow chunky monkeys around all day as they are the heaviest they are going to be being totally immobiles (21lb each x3 million lifts a day = LOTS of pressure on the wrists) he prescribed me some power gel and told me if it doens tclear up when they boys are more mobile he will refer me for surgery eekkk

Oh no, poor you! I hope it gets better so surgery isn't needed. I struggle to lug one chunky boy around, so I am full of admiration for you carrying two around!

I've been a bit naughty and haven't been using the wrist support (it's really uncomfortable - it cuts into my thumb). But I'm being much more careful in how I pick up James and it seems a little better. Will keep an eye on it.

I got realy severe pain in my thumb jount area when LO was about 2-3 days old it was like a sudden sharp pain that shot from the thumb across the palm of the hand and I was terrafied I was going to drop him because when it happened my hand just invoulantery opened and I couldnt bend my thumb or grip anything for a few muntes to half an hour aftwards.
It went after a few weeks but seemed to have come back day before yesterday so I have no idea what it is or why, im even more scared of dropping him no that hes more heavy and being played with up in the air more.

I started with this in my right wrist a couple of weeks ago and its now gone to my left wrist too. I've put mine down to lugging lo around in the carseat, its SO heavy to carry! I think the reason its spread to my left wrist is because I started carrying him in that hand when my other wrist went so now I have it in both!

I've started leaving his seat in the car and putting him in and out of it in there, rather than lugging it around. If it doesn't get better then I'm off to the docs.

I had the same thing! It's gone away now but I had to use a wrist support for awhile because I couldn't even pick Carmen up when it was bad. I put it down to holding bottles with the same hand all the time, and always carrying Carmen with the same arm since I can't do much with my left.
