Hi there. Started doing finger food with my little boy this week and keen to try new things. Was gonna do pasta for him with a tomato based sauce but all the sauces (dolmio etc) have salt on the ingredient list. Will this be ok to use? Or are there any low salt versions you could recommend?

You might be able to find something here: https://mediterraneanbaby.com/

This is from one of my recipe book (the no-salt lowest sodium cookbook)

Why not make your own? It's just tomatoes, onions and whatever veg you fancy. And it freezes well.

Mmm thanks the recipes on that website look yummy!! Yeh was gonna make it myself but wanted to have some wee jars too for quick fixes lol. Thanks ladies! Xxx

If you make one batch, make it a big one then just freeze it in little tubs or freezer bags. Whenever I make sauce, I tend to have a portion left over so it goes in the freezer for when I'm being lazy.

Get a big ice cube tray and make your own. It's freezes really well and defrosts in no time at all!

I just made one tonight:

1 Onion, diced
1 Carrot, diced
1 Celery, diced
Garlic 1 clove, crushed
1 tin chopped toms
Italian herbs
Black pepper

Sauté off onion, carrot, celery & garlic until really soft (8-10 mins), add tomatoes & seasoning and simmer on low for 15mins stirring every now & again

Millie is having tomato pasta for her lunch tomorrow :D

As a PP said, you can make your own with onion, garlic, tomato and herbs (plus any veg you want to add) or make a really basic one with tomato passata (check the packaging - it often contains salt - I only buy 100% tomatoes). That's it. It's great for cheesy tomato pasta and really versatile - you can use it with fish or meat and add veg to give it texture and more flavour.

A good creamy sauce is simply cream cheese added to hot pasta, veg and stirred with a decent amount of black pepper!

Just as quick to make your own.

For cheese sauce for 2 adults plus baby

25g butter and melt in the saucepan. Stir in 25g plain flour. Remove from heat and add 300ml of milk slowly until no lumps. Return to heat continuously stirring, when it starts to thicken add in the grated cheese (about 50g).

Some salt is probably fine, especially if everything else that day is salt-free. You could always make your own sauce though.
