Hi I will try keep this short we have been ttc for over 3 years now, we already have a daughter who is 4. I was diagnosed with pcos in January , i have only had 4 periods since my daughter was born and i am not ovulating. My doctor has been very unhelpful so far and i am very nervous about going back but i know i need too, she told me to lose weight, didn't arrange scans blood tests or anything else, so since January i have been trying desperately to lose weight but have lost nothing its so depressing I eat healthily and i am constantly active at one stage i was jogging for 2 hours a day eating barely anything yet still lost no weight :O. Even if i do lose weight im not convinced it will be miracle cure as i was 9 stone when my periods stopped ( i had been having other symptoms for years) , I am now just over 11 so not massively overweight but could of course do with losing a few stone. sorry for the rant basically my question is could/is she likely to prescribe anything ie clomid metformin whilst I am overweight? has anyone had experience of this ? feel stuck I am genuinely trying and getting nowhere.

I myself just got diagnose with pcos so im not all that familiar with everything yet so heres my thoughts : ) ....I would go to a different doctor then or try reasoning with your doctor...cuz she/he should be doing some sort of testing! Some women with pcos have sugar issues and diabetes...which can contribute with your weight...I would see if she can do a 2 hr glucose test...also have you ever had your thyroid checked? That could cause weight loss and weight gain...my doctor has told me I need to go out and lose weight...but he is still doing testing...there could always be underlying issues...clomid helps regulate your cycles and helps some ppl to ovulate...but usually women with pcos clomid doesn't always work and there are other drug options like metformin and I think there is one that starts with an f.... and you can take those even if your a little heavier...some doctors wont even look at you until you lose weight..to me those doctors need to get over it! Lol but there is always more testing to do...I would talk to another doctor or your doctor about how your feeling about them not doing anything...ttc is hard enough...you don't need a doctor to make it even harder...good luck Hun! I really hope this helped! Lets hope we get answers and bfps soon!! :)

Thanks sugarpi I'm going to try again on Monday and hopefully get somewhere , sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with it it's horrible isn't it :(. I think it's upset me more this week as my sisters just announced she's pregnant and my other sister who was diagnosed with pcos last week has been given clomid by her doctor and loads of support my sister is 13 stone and her doctor has not been concentrating on her weight I suppose I'm jealousr of them I just wish I had some hope but. My dads diabetic though so that's Defo worth checking I will ask about that on monday :) . Think my partners going to try come with me hopefully he can help me convince her i genuinely have been trying to shift the weight and how its affecting me , i feel so selfish and ungrateful i should be happy with what i have but i spent last night crying i couldn't help myself ttc and pcos have taken over my life I do a test every few days even though my chances just now are slim too none.
thanks for the advice and i really hope you get BFP very soon. I'm very lucky I already have a little girl but I would love to give her a sibling she's desperate for one too lol hopefully I can but atleast I have her if not. Good luck x

Just back from doctors and it was pointless my doctor is off till next week and according to doctor covering for her theres nothing in my notes about pcos! I could scream so annoyed his advice was to wait till she's back and see her again, I am so tempted to switch to a different practice maybe a bit extreme though. So looks like another week of worry. On the plus side though my friend had a baby yesterday so off for some cuddles later :) x

cherrycola I would really find a new doctor! How did she diagnose you, just from symptoms?? You had no blood tests or scans or anything? That's just stupid. You need to have these things done a) because you have a right to know what is truly wrong with you and b) as far as I'm aware, these tests need to be run before they'll prescribe clomid. It might be different where you live, but my GP couldn't prescribe me clomid, I had to be referred to our local fertility clinic.

I am also around 11 stone and know I need to lose a bit of weight. However (depending on your height!) I don't think 11 stone is extreme. It's always good to lose a few pounds though when I was at the fertility clinic, I asked to start on metformin before clomid and they told me no, because I wasn't fat enough! Can't win...however, I am currently on clomid and they were totally happy to prescribe it at my current weight.

Re exercise etc not eating anything is really bad!! Us PCOSers do need to be careful and many say we should eat slightly less than a 'normal' woman but if you barely eat and run 2 hours your body is going to struggle. Just eat a normal healthy diet and limit your sugar and carb intake. That plus regular exercise should help. (She says, sat at laptop with a mug of hot chocolate!!!)

Yeah smiler82 just by symptoms which there are a lot of but still i was expecting tests etc. Hopefully she will refer me , might actually get answers then.
The weight things annoying and your right seems like you cant win :( ,I was pretty stupid with the exercising but i was desperate ended up injuring my leg so not been jogging for a few weeks now, I am about 5"4 ish so not particularly tall and weights mostly on tummy unfortunately.
Starting today I am ditching the sugar completely (well as much as i can )and cutting down on carbs so hopefully see results soon ,Thanks for replying :)

( hot chocolates a must when its cold , a necessity surely ?? lol )

Haha yeah hot choc is a total necessity, you're right :)

You sound the same as me pretty much, I'm 5'5 and 11 stone something...I am seriously off to the gym in about half an hour!! Weight is all around my tummy too :( It's good to fat-burn but it's also good to build muscle, since the more muscle you have the better your body deals with insulin and the more fat you burn when you're not even active (DH used to be a personal trainer!) It's hard sticking to it though, I'm a shocker...

I know it's tough when you have a not-so-great doc but if you go in with a list of points you want to make then maybe she will get off her backside and actually arrange for you to have tests done. At the very least she should've started with a Day 21 blood test, then depending on your area she should either refer you to a fertility clinic or arrange for a couple more tests herself and then prescribe you clomid. I am soooo mad for you!

Hope your leg gets better soon x

Cherrycola, you need to get yourself some Inositol, NAC and L-arginine and do a little bit of reading on the pages I've linked to the NHS studies about PCOS supplements.

Sugar is elevated in your blood very easily by white bread, rice, carbs and any baked goods. Try to change your eating if only for 3 months and see if you get your ovulation back. Veg and meat with every meal and a handful of nuts, carrots etc inbetween meals. if you can't stand no carbs, let yourself have them for breaky...grains or gluten free cereals (these don't spike your blood sugar as much and don't cause inflammation in your body as regular grains do). Are you a bit chubby like me? Then you'll be fighting inflammation too as well as insulin resistance. Anyway, the stats say that if you take the supplements and a tweak in diet you ovulation will come back. gl!

Who cares about the doc, mine told me with diminished ovarian reserve to do nothing-she told me I have less than 10% chance and no supplements are going to help me. Ask yours about metaformin perhaps? I took those antioxidents mentioned in that website + a bunch more and conceived naturally. Doc's aren't the end-all be-all solutions to this problem.

2have4kids - congratulations on your pregnancy! This is really inspiring :)

I tried Inositol for 6 months and sadly it did nothing for me. However the other 2 supplements you mentioned sound very interesting. I don't suppose you know if it is ok to take these whilst on clomid?

Since they help deal with blood glucose levels (keeping them consistent rather than spiking all the time) I think they should be OK. They're antioxidents and will help prevent cancer/disease too. (like eating a bag of kale everyday).
