PCOS and OPKs

Hey all,

I read on a website that women with PCOS who use OPKs may not have accurate results.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I just tried my first OPK today and it said I should ovulate in the next 24-36 hours, but I am only on CD9 and I thought it was a bit early since I normally have a 33 day cycle.

What are your opinions?

Thanxxxxx

Hi there, I can only speak for myself but when I use opk's I can sometimes get multiple positives throughout a cycle and not end up ovulating at all and other times before I stopped ovulating by myself, when I got a positive opk I had af exactly 14 days later which meant it was correct ........ so confusing :(

If it helps, my fs said for me, they are a waste of time :(

Thanks. They probably are. I read that you have LH levels in you at all times so the test could be reading your normal LH levels and that they aren't actually raised? It is confusing. I think I just wasted $20.

They show that I am constantly OVing so they are no good for me. It's something that you are right in trying as they might work perfectly for you :)

My GP said they were a waste of time (and money); I charted the old-fashioned way (on an index card) and from that, a fertility specialist we saw in February suggested that we try from day 7 to day 30 (my cycles ranged from 21 to 44 days, altho the 44 day one was probably a chemical). Two years after an mc, I got pregnant this past June and the ob/gyn thinks we conceived around day 10. Incidentially, I also started taking metformin after the chemical and I firmly believe it helped me alot. (Also, lost weight, gentle exercise, etc) -- also get your thyroid checked, we discovered I had an underactive one, so altho it took a few months to adjust meds, in May (the first month with correct level of medication), I had a perfect 28 day cycle and then conceived the next month.

best wishes

Thank you. I am planning to start charting next cycle. Right now I am on day 10 and am just going :sex: every two days until AF arrives.

I am also taking 1500 mg of metformin a day and am trying to lose weight! I am not super overweight, but I carry most of my weight in my mid section so I already look like I am pregnant even though I am not. :growlmad: Hubby and I are starting an exercise program together so it should make it more fun.

Thanks for the help!

Hi I know this is an old thread but so glad to see your preggers. Congrats. Like you I have noticed that I have a positive opk which turns negative for a few days then positive again. Temps are a bit all over the place. A recent ultrasound didn't show anything but worried that I may have psos. Did you have multiple opks every cycle?
